CO2 escape from a vacuum sealed roast

Sounds like there's quite a leeway there - like a little bit of CO₂ escapes and keeping it in (instead of valving it out) substantially slows staling. Maybe it was just cosmetic but I do recall a photo of a sign in a coffee shop saying "Don't squeeze the [valved] bags". I think from what you and oth...

CO2 escape from a vacuum sealed roast

I noticed a vacuum sealed fresh roast (in plastic) was still rock-hard compacted weeks after - making me think the pressure isn't allowing release of CO₂. Or is it that CO₂ is a product of oxidation, requiring air? And then the point of one-way valves in purchased vacuum-sealed coffee - does anythin...

Nurri Leva firmware updating

From what I understand, the PID update just allowed tuning of the PID parameters separately for each channel, but I don't find the current sharing of parameters across the 3 channels an issue. LMK if you or Primacog see much difference. I recall Primacog wasn't fond of the 1 deg difference between s...

SearchPean scale - don't bother

Yes, very disappointing the Tiny2s for espresso. Unusable if you preinfuse and start with drops. Makers disagreed, showing how it's fine when simulating espresso with pour over. A simulation? A pity because it's a great form factor and feels quality

Happens quite frequently, because I'm also using tea tap to heat cup and jiggle emptied PF back in place to splash some water up into the grouphead to clean it. Did you used to hear the click of death with your Pompeii?

Correct, not a problem with shots being wrecked with levers (one of the reasons I could never go back to pump brewing). However the Izzo lever is not off the hook. Single boiler - so filling the group chamber with water can frequently take the boiler low. Shot protected, but goodbye steam pressure. ...

I don't value the need for steaming for consecutive coffees (wasting a good feature of the Izzo's 5 L). Never had a boiler machine that was slower to recover than what it took me to prepare the next bed. What I do value is being able to start and finish steaming for two during extraction to bring

Your experience in the home is not necessarily representative either. You could be on 110V - that can have implications. A Nurri in Australia had a PID so wild it had to get sent back. Baka and Primacog indicated large drops in pressure. People described the Synchronika as having fantastic steaming,...

Yep, you snapshotted my post before I corrected it. But 0.3 bar is probably more like it, with the precisions and accuracies of the displays and sensors. Izzo boiler size was more about the thermal stability. Great for steam of course because of the energy stored in such a large volume.I've got a 17...
