Elektra Semiautomatica electrical short

I greased the rubber O-Ring with Lubri-Film Plus. The groove, in the boiler, dictates the amount of pressure that can be applied to the O-Ring. I am going to leave it open for 10 days, and try it again. That worked for drying out electrical shorts in a GS/3 and an A3. I have long

Elektra Semiautomatica electrical short

Yes, good question. That was the purpose the rebuild, the boiler gasket needed replacing, and yes, lots of evidence of a water leak-water streaming out from under the machine. I rebuilt it a year earlier, and filled the boiler with some out-of-date L.A. distilled water. When I emptied the boiler, th...

Elektra Semiautomatica electrical short

I just finished rebuilding this machine, (fourth time in 15 years), and the GFCI tripped about 5 seconds after turning it on. These are the electrical parts I replaced: the heating element, the pressure stat, and the bulb thermostat. I re-checked the wiring, against the disassembly pictures; it look...

Cooler Pavoni shots

To produce warmer shots with this technique, do a "warming flush," flush water through the group until it gets the group to a temperature you like. Filling an espresso cup, with the warming flush, gets the group to a temperature I like

Cooler Pavoni shots

I prefer to pull cooler espresso shots, 197 degrees, as opposed to the conventional 204 degrees. What works for me is filling the boiler well below the fill line, away from the grouphead. This keeps the grouphead cooler, and has the added advantage of a faster machine warm-up with less water. Follow...

Pipe leak and teflon tape

I should know this, but haven't run into it before. I taped the threads, on a leaky pipe fitting, with teflon tape. It holds between the nut and threads, but leaks between the back of the nut and the pipe. Can that be fixed with teflon tape around the pipe itself?

La Pavoni boiler won't tighten to base

Here is what worked, the larger spacer on the bottom: from Espressocare.com, Stefano: "Note: Although you need the smaller P-4E on top of the base (or it will protrude out from the allotted space), Stefano prefers to use the larger spacer, P-4P, between the bottom of the base and the boiler flange a...

1991 La Pavoni Europiccola thermal fuse removal

In some of the older Pavonis, the fuse is just a wire with that doesn't attach to the heating element base. {link} It was always my understanding, the fuse is for an electrical overload, not for excessive heat. NOTE: I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD. SEE OldNuc's POST, THE FOLLOWING ONE, FO...
