Americano-style Immersion brews

Just something I've been messing with recently to shave some time of my immersion brews and look for new profiles is Americano-style, and it's been yielding great cups. Basically just making a very concentrated immersion brew (I aim for 1.70 TDS / 20% Ext) and then dilute with water (I usually go do...

It's the Water!

I'm a homebrewer and I was shocked at how much my beers improved when I started dialing in the water. I've also suspected for a few years that the really elite coffee shops here in Portland, like where the pourover aroma and flavors explode out of the cup in a way you can only dream of at home, are ...

Gene Cafe Optimal Batch Size and Uneven Roast

I do 225g on the Gene, 450 degrees until FC, then 420 until it's done, usually aiming for FC being about 77% of the total time. A few months ago I stopped preheating, and the roasts REALLY improved. So I'd say skip the preheat, which will take FC to between 12-13m, and the end result will be better

A detailed comparison study of the Atago and VST refractometers

Fwiw I did a side by side run with these for brewed coffee that i made a post about on the other website. The punchline is that I found the VST to be more consistent within samples and the two never once read the same TDS

Grind Sifting for Brewed Coffee

I found really affordable PVC sieves on ebay that are normally used for plankton, etc. I got a 250u and messed around with it, so there are deals out there

VST CoffeeTools for Android is HERE!!!

I started this thread to bring attention to something I was excited about with the Android app. It's a really thick package of tools, prob the best price for all that stuff VST has ever done, and I thought other folks would be psyched (I hope some of you are). The refractometer and Windows suite I g...

VST CoffeeTools for Android is HERE!!!

It's kinda sad to me that a company that is working to develop things to make us brew better coffee gets so maligned for doing what every company ever does in protecting their work. :/

VST CoffeeTools for Android is HERE!!!

Every piece of software I've ever bought has similar statements about IP so you don't deconstruct it and knock it off. A license cannot prevent general discussions about coffee extraction. Also this might not be clear at first glance, but the Android thing has tons of extra stuff in it that goes bey...
