What's the Mazzer with me? Pictures of New Paint Job; My thoughts on Super Jolly!
If you are going doserless, look no further than the Mazzer Mini E. It is a dream machine -- the ergonomics are incredible! It holds your portafilter perfectly and grinds directly into it -- no fuss, no muss. It is very easy to find exactly where to move the collar so that you get the same grind

Undrinkable espresso and not sure what to try next
Let me first say that all of our tastes are obviously different, so what works for me might not work for you. But in my experience (with a Gaggia Classic) if you pull a cooling shot just before your real shot, your results will be too sour. Bitter you can live with, but sour is undrinkable. So

Mazzer Mini E worth the extra money?
Actually I have a Mini E Type B and still load and grind one dose at a time -- I measure and load my beans per shot and just have it set so that it grinds until empty. I do this because I switch between caf and decaf ever few hours. It's probably a waste of electronics

A theory about the cost of espresso machine vs. espresso quality
oofnik, I think your argument falls into this classic fallacy: "Post Hoc, Ergo Prompter Hoc." In other words, "After the fact, therefore because of it." While one's barista capabilities (and hence espresso quality) may improve as one's equipment improves, it does not necesarily mean that the equipme...

Favorite/"Best" single origin espresso?
This may be an unorthodox view but Terroir SOEs have completely spoiled me. I find I prefer their Southern or Northern Daterra to just about any espresso blend that I've tried, and their Yirg espresso is simply divine. Part of it is their roasting style. After Terroir I find so many blends to be ove...

If hx machines show obvious espresso flaws, then why...
This reminds me of my early days of trying to get by with a Capresso Infinity, of all things. I know the QM is a MUCH better grinder than that, but your symptoms are similar: sometimes a great shot, when everything aligns; and sometimes just plain awful. Simply, when the grinder can't grind fine eno...

Their answer just doesn't make any sense to me. Burrs rubbing together can't be good, especially when there are so many other grinders out there with a lot of headroom for espresso. Strike while the iron is hot -- get a new grinder!!! And definitely try a longer flush

Leoz, unless I'm mistaken, I seem to recall an earlier post of yours about the QM that indicated you had to run the grinder close to zero to get fine enough coffee -- close enough so that you could hear the burrs touching slightly. Seems to me that your grinder is maxed out for espresso. Again, on the

Hi LeoZ! Listen, your comment above -- no kidding -- sounds like a grinder problem to me. Changes in weather will affect the grind you need, but with a great grinder those adjustments become both trivial and automatic. With my Mini e, I'm making tiny adjustments all the time -- but they seem to be s...
