Cafelat piston seals on Londinium 1

I've had mine in for 5 days on my L1. They are very elastic silicone, much more so than the Bosco silicone seals or the stock seals ( not sure what type of rubber they are). Very, very easy to install. It is also really nice to use such a small amount of silicone grease as well. I really hated

Focus on the Roast 2016, Lot 1 Costa Rica Las Lajas, natural, organic

I really liked this coffee too and mine has been gone for a few days now. Definitely one of the cleanest central naturals I've had- on par with Graciano Cruz's coffees. Here is a great article about the farm. {link} The one we had was the alma negra. I would have loved to try their "black diamond" n...

Why do espresso machines use BSP parallel fittings?

Ahh, misunderstood the question initially. Tapered male threads into tapered female seal by metal to metal wedging. Same with tapered male into parallel female. Parallel threads usually seal via an o-ring or crush washer, however, as it was explained to me years ago by an older engineer, parallel th...

Why do espresso machines use BSP parallel fittings?

BSP, whether parallel or tapered, are used in more places in the world than any other thread type. It is the oldest standard thread type (approximately 175 years old). They are the same thread pitch and count as British Standard Whitworth from my understanding, which was used in the British Navy in ...

Ninety Plus Perci Red DP Geisha-Odd Profile, Interesting Results

Papa Lins had it, but they are out of it now. Currently they have the Lotus, which is one of the super small (5kg) kiln dried 90+ Geshas lots... Currently, Barrington has the Perci Red. {link} I have a feeling the Perci red that floated around the homeroast circuit came from the same place. I was lu...

HUKY 500 final specs and some Q's about dataloggers

Jed, Nice profile! Thanks for posting. It is really nice how your TC4 registers your variac voltage for your fan. What a setup!! Also thanks for posting the Boot articles link. Chris, I generally get 4 or 5 roasts out of a butane can, however, I have found that to be heavily dependant on brand. I ge...

HUKY 500 final specs and some Q's about dataloggers

A few things I would like to mention. I did change the thermal properties of the solid drum. I coated the outside of the drum with vegetable oil and blackened that oil with a soft flame on an acetylene torch. It's been there for several hundred pounds of roasted coffee and not burned off. The inside...

HUKY 500 final specs and some Q's about dataloggers

Chris, As far as regulators are concerned, I bought a 1 PSI one from Amazon and it is close to 1 PSI. My friend bought the supposed exact same one several months later and his put out 0.5 PSI (although the packaging claimed it was a 1 PSI regulator). I would go somewhere reputable and buy one in per...

HUKY 500 final specs and some Q's about dataloggers

Chris, I just hit over 500 pounds through my Huky a few weeks ago. I switched to the Butane IR burner (Kuanho) last fall from a propane direct flame (the amazon one) and have had no problem with its output. In fact, I never run it at full because it will speed up the roast too much (454 gram roasts)

Help understanding how heat + fan affects roast temperatures

Jano,The above statements are exactly how my Huky responds using 1 lb batch sizes. I am currently using Kuanhos butane IR stove with excellent results. I am also using a solid drum with the stock motor(48 rpm). JW
