Mahlkonig K30 Air - loud fan
Thanks y'all. This is actually in a shop - not at my house. I was a little surprised that ambient cafe noise didn't drown out the whining of the fan. Every space is unique, so it's probably accentuated by our bar placement, speaker placement, etc. When the shop is hopping, and/or when the roaster is...

Mahlkonig K30 Air - loud fan
Just started using a K30 air and while I love the grinder, the fan seems really loud. Not like "hey it's broken" loud, just a constant low whine. Curious if others have had a similar experience. Mahlkonig mentioned to me that the fan can be turned down via a potentiometer inside, but I couldn't spot...

Coffee tonic
My preference is for ligher-side espresso - for the reasons mentioned, less bitterness (which tends to present even stronger when espresso is on ice). I usually pull something like 18g in, 32g out. Then match with Fever Tree tonic in a 1:1 ratio (by volume, not by weight in this case). Big fan. Nice...

La Marzocco GS3 lock-in problem - portafilter and/or basket issue?
Hey Rob. I had the same "issue" with my GS3 when I first got it. I found that after just a few weeks (maybe? not quite sure) it now slides into the 6oclock (approx) position. My guess is the "fresh" factory gaskets had to wear in a little. -Randy

Post a pic of your home espresso setup...
An update from my previous "post" back in August... I've since upgraded to a GS/3 and a (used) Super Jolly. Honestly the only difference between the two setups has been that my skill has greatly improved (with still a long way to go). The shot and milk quality is remarkably similar, but this new set...

Modest? Puh-leeze. A solid E61 machine + Baratza Vario is one of my favorite setups. You're all set

Foot-activated steam wand mod
Johnny - excellent. Thanks, this will certainly get me started. EspressoParts doesn't seem to be dealing in Mistral parts any longer

Foot-activated steam wand mod
I'm looking for some info on modding my GS/3 steam wand to be foot-activated. I've been looking around (here and elsewhere on the web) and have found little info to help. I'm looking for some resources to help me out, in terms of where to get parts and as well as possibly info on physical modificati...

Consistently good coffee shops in NYC
Continuing... Just last week I went to check out the new Stumptown and Intelli locations. Stumptown: First of all, the space is beautiful. They really play up the unfinished wood theme, from natural wood floors to all custom wood shelving etc, and the woodgrain Stradas (2x 3group). As for the coffee...
