Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

KennthP / Genovese, Thanks for the responses! Won't be able to give the Rocky back - part of the package living in Pakistan and having suppliers that can't really support their product - but will shift it to other coffee related duties. Once the other grinder comes, I will certainly try the stepless...

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Hi... Sad (and a little miffed, frankly) to report that it is the grinder that's the issue. Got a few grams of the Sumatran ground at the local roasters and brought it home and ran it through the Silvia (thus, taking the Rocky out of the equation). I was able to choke the Silvia at 16 grams

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Ok... So I now am quite convinced that the issue is (was?) a combination of technique and grinder. Was able to get consistent decent extraction (both timewise and tastewise) from the Malabar at between 16 and 16.5 gms. at the 1 away from zero. Just a slight impression of the screw on the top of the ...

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Genovese! Wow... I am floored at the depth and detail in your responses. Thanks for taking the time out to write all of that.I have cleaned my grinder to the point of removing the upper burr and cleaning the chamber, inspecting both burrs and then putting the thing back together. The problem is with...

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Genovese, Thanks for a thoroughly detailed response. I'm glad to know that there's nothing major wrong with the machine... I went through the exercise of checking to see if the screw touches the dose... And it did. I don't know if it does enough to fracture the puck. But I still underdosed To thepoi...

How Starbucks' CEO likes his coffee

Just an email I got.. not sure of the source, but I found it a bit funny, considering the guy is responsible for HUGE purchases of espresso machines... Wonder what "brand" he's referring to in the end... And no, don't wanna start a Mermaid-flaming thread... Enjoy... Fauzi

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Ok.. been reading a bit more... and at the risk of embarrassing the heck out of me, I'm gonna post a picture of my spent puck... It's obviously touching the shower screen, and there is no gap between it and the puck. Could this be my problem? I believe this was 18 grams, at the finest.

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Hello, Raising this topic again. As I feared, the problem is not confined to the sumatran anymore. Getting the "15 second Blonde shot" on every coffee, no matter what I dose at. A couple suspicions: - It seems that the shots are running VERY hot. What would happen if the water was

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

So I did the adjustment. Easy enough. Gonna be a bit long winded to try to understand this stuff. Before adjusting the opv I measured the current pressure best I could. "winged" a blind pf by a cut piece of rubber and a plastic bag in a single basket, unscrewed the shower screen, locked the blind pf...

Faster pour caused by high brew pressure?

Mike, The Blind PF is on it's way... taking the slooooow train to Pakistan. Can't wait that long to do the adjustment. Plan on doing it this afternoon. Noted about the sumatran coffee. My grinder is calibrated so that at "0", the burrs are making a slight touching sound; like they're *just* grazing ...
