Vietnamese Coffee

I have been a bit reluctant to post my impressions of the civet cat coffee because its not very good. Its a french roast (well roasted if you like that type of thing) with a syrup added to the beans to give a chocolate flavour. Its like a Starbucks mocha. Which is the impression of the intent

Vietnamese Coffee

Thanks for the link to the civet cat discussion Jeremy it was good to read more. It isn't something I sort out to try but a present from my sister. She was promised that the cats were free range but I doubt it. More likely telling people what they want to hear. As far as everything else goes I'll st...

Orphan Espresso LIDO cupping grinder

I just went and tried it. It was easy to get good results. The grind was fine with only a little bit of inconsistency compared to the Pharos, which is only effects things as you get to the bottom of the cup. There wasn't much more physicality than the other settings, the Pharos just seams to take mo...

Vietnamese Coffee

My sister just got back from Vietnam and has some weasel selected coffee beans (not the $800 per kilogram wild weasel selected beans) that are meant to have a bitter chocolate sweetness to them. I'm just waiting for them to arrive to see what the hype is about

Some observations and opinions from a frequent reader who rarely comments

I found this community of ideas looking for something exceptional (I love my Pharos) that I hadn't found anywhere else. I have stayed involved because there are amazing people passing on pieces of information to learn from for all the different ways I have my coffee. There is more than one way to ha...

For exceptional espresso, you need professional equipment... or do you?

For less than $700 I got a Bacchi AND a Pharos to give me exceptional espresso. As taste goes I have consistently better coffee at home than going to close-by commercial establishments. The limits are they only do home shots, I say 'That's hot' more than on a Expobar Office and if there was more tha...

New brewing forum dedicated to coffee (not espresso!)

Coffee culture has been around alot longer than espresso. There's the coffee house of London, Turkish coffee, Aramaic coffee and don't forget the dancing goats. I read up on how to prepare Turkish coffee in one of the threads in Knock Box and can now, some patience and practice later, make a great t...

Owner experience with LIDO cupping coffee grinder by Orphan Espresso

#004 checking in then. Didn't mean it to be that complicated. That has been the biggest issue so far, the LIDO is so easy to use. I just made my second drip and got it close to where I want the setting. It was a slightly under extracted cup but a beautiful sour cherry taste from the fresh Ugandan be...
