Clogged gicleur, with particular reference to a La Marzocco GS/3

Chris, To inspect the brew jets you will need to remove the brew solenoid valves. You will either have to unscrew a brass jet from the group directly above the brew valve using a hex key or you may have a stainless steel or ruby disk jet sitting in the top of the brew valve under the o-ring

Issues with Diffuser Screw and Screen on La Marzocco GS/3

Assuming the diffusion block and screens haven't been re-invented for the GS3 (ie they are the same as the Linea and GB models), the diffusion screen is normally very slightly convex if viewed from the coffee side and the screw is a firm fit against the screen. What you describe sounds like an inver...

The World's not Flat, nor are Tampers. Myth busting, with facts

I have tried flat and Reg Barber c-flat but Reg's euro curve is what gives me a perfectly even extraction across the basket on my Barista Minore (aka Brewtus). Has anyone considered that commercially available tampers with their radial symmetry about the vertical axis are not necessarily as ergonomi...

La Marzocco Basket Woes

I think you are going to an extreme here. You know we still do science following scientific principles and we do receive some benefits from doing that. This forum is about improving espresso technique. I am just asking if there is any real evidence for these claims. I am not calling them nonsense. A...

La Marzocco Basket Woes

I wouldn't hold that suggestive survey up as a model of experimental design! Two shots each with a difference of 0.1 bar, and then ask the subject if there is a difference? !! You only need a first year psychology student to tell you what's happening there. A change of 0.05 bar in say 10 bar is

La Marzocco Basket Woes

What? The shape and proportion of a LM double basket is significantly different to another double basket? A lot of double baskets are very similar in shape... Next you'll be telling me that some guy can taste the difference between 9.2 and 9.3 bar brewing pressure. I suspect you are selling yourself...

La Marzocco Basket Woes

These kinds of statements remind me of hifi forums (fora?) where they deliberately impose a "double blind free zone" so that "experts" can make totally unjustifiable statements about speaker cables, etc. without sceptics asking for double blind test results. My observation is that HB generally empha...
