I did not consider the Restrictor in the pipe work from the boiler to the group head, however I am still at a loss as to how the water would get into the Boiler, as that would just simulate a good puck and back pressure. But is worth checking, however as the Group was removed to be

I am fully aware of the Boiler Fill solenoid, it was the term you used, as per my follow up, that had me confused. Spring and slug and coil and pads on the slug have been inspected and tested, on a test bed. The 2 one way check valves have also been stripped and new O-rings and tested
