Water, no scale? no corrosion? For reservoir espresso machines
That is correct. The resin filter is there to exchange hardness minerals (Ca and Mg) and rpavlis water has none. Just remove it* - even though it's not being depleted you don't want it in there a long time and possibly harboring microbes. I'm a fan of having a group thermometer on an HX.

Water, no scale? no corrosion? For reservoir espresso machines
Good point. That does put a wrinkle in trying to predict limescale using LSI calculations. I think you are still probably fine given that most of the time your steam boiler is at much lower pressure, but hard to be 100% sure. If you are using that soft water, and also the LeLit resin softener in the

Water, no scale? no corrosion? For reservoir espresso machines
I agree that you should look into Whole Foods' water refill station. Mine is 39 cents per gallon of de-ionized, which is local tapwater that is treated via RO followed by ion exchange de-ionization to get it down to a couple ppm or less. Besides the price it also helps avoid container waste. P.S. Gi...

Braided hose to water filter faucet
That looks very reasonable to me. Pretty much just a standard faucet. The 3/8" on the end of that braided hose would almost surely be 3/8" compression for fitting to common US angle stops. (3/8" comp is not the same threading as what is usually called 3/8" NPT.) I think the adapter fitting that Stef...

Red/brown water when emptying La Pavoni Europiccola boiler
That siphon tube should be brass. After a harsh descale it will look pinkish (because the surface zinc is removed) and when polished with a mild abrasive should look like yellow brass. It has no iron so should never rust. {image} I'm at a loss here. I've read that you should avoid using

Braided hose to water filter faucet
It's still not really clear about that faucet end that you want to connect with. Many of the little faucets used with undersink RO units are either 3/8" OD or 1/4" OD pipe, and are typically supplied with a few plastic JG adapters for fitting to that pipe. If I understand your setup you already have

Help with water results please
Numbers like that are what you expect from a really hard water that has been effectively softened by a conventional ion exchange softener. It has dropped the hardness drastically, which will address limescale issues, but still has very high alkalinity. The main argument against such high alkalinity ...

Yes. A 1/10 dilution is appropriate for shots in the 45 gram ballpark. My 1/13 suggestion was for ~ 35 gram shots. Not that it matters much, but a proper 1/10 dilution would have 1 gram of concentrate solution diluted to a total mass of 10 grams (e.g., 1 part Lotus to 9 parts pure water). Given

Water report and questions
At one time I think Soma was a simple activated charcoal filter, but not any more. From "their FAQ": They don't say how much or what type, but most likely a WAC decarbonizing (exchanges H+ ions for divalent cations) resin. If you want a pitcher filter that has no ion exchange resins I think you

Yes, for the Na you would do the same dilution (1 drop + 12 drops) and then add 6 drops to the puck. Because of drop variability and counting effort I think the best approach would be to use a scale to make your Baca drops solutions. Find small containers with good caps, and add 3 grams of
