Weight-based dosing grinders are on the horizon
I guarantee you that all of the grinders on the market cost *nowhere* near their selling price to manufacture. My MDX is close to $1000 new, and I can think of a ton of things that are more complex, required way more engineering, and cost much less: - power tools like chainsaws or other things with ...

Mazzer Major help with power conversion
It's 380V? Are you sure it's not 208V? 208V is more common. As far as the cost of having it rewound... call around. The price will vary dramatically. Usually the old guys that have been doing it for 50 years are the cheapest. I've had 60amp alternators rewound to 100amp ones, and the price

Weight-based dosing grinders are on the horizon
There is a better way to do this.... Take a design like the Versalab M3 so the motor isn't in the way. Put a pad with a weight sensor under the grind chamber with a "mount" on it to set your portafilter in. Then, when the grind button is pressed, it zeros the scale, and starts grinding

Mazzer Major help with power conversion
I haven't seen the guts of one, but I have to assume that even if it's dumped in there while the case is hot, you should still be able to pull the guts out of it by taking the bolts out of the bottom end. Aren't these things supposed to be serviceable? What is essentially a press fit

Mazzer Super Jolly refurbish with pictures and a quick question
One thing I forgot to mention, if you're going to redo the polishing on it, you should call some metal polishers around town. I called some to figure out how to get rid of my haze, and most of them said they would have done the whole thing for $50. That's about the same amount of money I

It's unlikely the funnel I have will fit on yours. It has holes drilled for mounting, and a hole cut to allow grinds to exit the grind chamber. I doubt they are in the right spot. I picked up my funnel at Seven Corners Hardware in St. Paul. It's $15. I cut the threaded end

Mazzer Major help with power conversion
The motor would have to be replaced, or at a minimum it would have to be rewound by a competent electrician. Call around to some alternator/electric motor shops to see if they can do it. You'll probably also need to add a starter capacitor. Your other option is to buy a phase converter. Phase conver...

Mazzer Super Jolly refurbish with pictures and a quick question
My static issues are not nearly as bad as they were, but, they still exist. Some days they are worse than others, and I don't think it's a humidity issue since my humidity is pretty tightly controlled in the house. The funnel is a Porter Cable gravity feed paint hopper. It's all stainless steel. $15.

Mazzer Super Jolly refurbish with pictures and a quick question
Hey! That now looks like my "Project MDX Bling!" Use some white rouge to get it even shinier... use a BIG wheel and a powerful motor to keep the heat up from the friction, or you'll get hazing. I don't know if the burrs touching at only one point matters. My MDX

Project MDX Bling!
Yeah, I though about that also, and I also thought about just getting some non-stick repair spray paint and hitting the inside with it. If that didn't work, I could go with the steeper funnel
