Hi all,
I just bought an 25 yo europiccola (pre millenium, 2 switches) and quickly fell in love with it.
just after fixing the machine here and there, my girl tried to pull a shot and forgot it on, killing the heating element (i guess she was jealous :( ).
Anyway, the heating element didnt seem to have a fuse.
Is it possible to retrofit a newer element, that would have a fuse etc?
Do you know a good place for this part, they seem pretty expensive...
Thanks

Partsguru.com seems to have the element for that one... I dunno if you can retrofit the newer ones, though. They don't seem to have the old copper ones at all. I would imagine you want the 4-pole one, if you have the old one with the 2 switches. You might try e-mailing them directly and asking about your options, especially if no one else here can help on that point.

It might be more cost effective to spend extra and just buy another La Pavoni, maybe a beat up but working one on eBay. I have a friend who has a really old one just like yours, that is working quite well but kind of ugly (rusted base, scratches/brassing from many years of usage). You could hawk it for parts. He would want about $150 for it, I think. Let me know if you are interested in that (you can PM me), and I can get you in contact with him. I think it would be worth it easily for the spare parts. They probably aren't getting any cheaper, and you never know what else might go...

welcome to my world. First of all, the the temp fuse that is supposed to turn off the newer pavonis "DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK!!!" I have already had a full melt down with a newer pavoni (element, base gasket and sight tube gaskets destroyed). As a result I recommend either always unplugging it when not in use, or better yet putting a 15 min timer on the power supply so that no one needs to remember anything. The older screw on 2 element heating elements are still available. If you want modernize you can set up an older pav with a pressure stat etc...but once you have changed everything you will have spent about $200. I opted to stay with the old 2 element screw on element, it took me about 2 months to get consistent results with this old pav, and I already had 2 years experience with a pressure stat pav. If you do decide to go with the new innards (pressure stat or newer style 3 bolt/o ring 2 element) let me know and I can tell you exactly what you need. But really the 2 element pav is a great machine, and as parts are still available might as well keep it stock besides it is a simpler more reliable machine. Finally make sure you put a multi meter to the element and you know that that is the problem, (the switch or wiring may have failed before the element). Re:the poster above, my experience been that Pav parts are still available for these old beasts.
