See the red dot on the metallic surface above the portafilter? What's that?

It's the portafilter's "please stop, that's too tight" mark.

Ah, gotya. Hm - I just tighen it until it's about 90 degrees from the unit... When it's snug, I stop. Is that correct?

I'm with Mike. At one time I had the bad habit of gorilla tightening, then realized that snug is enough. The gaskets will last longer too.

It sure seems to be way far too the right, is it even possible to tighten it that far?

Mine tightened past the red dot after a few years...
