Hi everyone,

I would love for you all to check out a web site I have been working on called Rate My Rosetta.

Basically, it is a latte art ratings web site, where you upload your latte art photos and the community rates them and comments on them, hopefully offering suggestions for improvement or encouragement.

It all started because I am a very average latte artist, but I am determined to get better. I am a web developer, and figured that this is something that I could offer the community, and it could also help my latte art at the same time :)

Already, the community via Rate My Rosetta has offered inspiration with Klaus Thomsen, James Hoffman and the Australian latte art champion Jack Hanna all contributing, amongst some other fantastic latte artists. Via the comments feature, people have offered advice and had a laugh.

If you are working on your latte art, I consider it a perfect home-barista companion. I would love to see people uploading progress shots so both you and the community can easily keep track of how you are improving over time.

If you have any suggestions for improvements on the web site let me know! Although it should work perfectly right now, it is a work in progress and if you find a feature lacking, or would like to see a feature added make sure you drop me a line.

Thanks!
muzzi

At Lee's invitation, I checked out "Rate My Rosetta" last night. My interest in latte art has waned over the months. In part because I reached the point were people stopped wondering if the design was intentional, which sufficiently satisfied my ego's desire, in part because my interest in adding milk has dwindled in light of the intense back-to-back reviews of the last six months. I've made less than a half-dozen cappuccinos in the last month.

Nonetheless, I'll post my feeble attempt at a rosetta to your site, if only to encourage lazy wannabe latte artists:

And the commentary that accompanied the photo:

HB wrote:As you can see, I couldn't bring myself to fill the twelve ounce cup. Stopping short and also rummaging around to find the camera led to the fallen appearance of the foam and crema. It was a little foamier than I would have preferred, as indicated by the lack of detail in the lines. Ironically the next one I poured before dashing out the door was better.

I only make cappas so my attempts are in 6oz cups. The kids run over to the table 'what design did you make daddy?' 'what does it look like?' 'A pine tree!!' 'yup, that is it' one day they will figure out it was supposed to be a Rosetta and my bubble will be burst, but I will enjoy it while I can.

Thanks for your comments on Rate My Rosetta cannonfodder! You posted a link that freaked out the page a bit, that was fixed pretty quickly though. Thanks for helping me find that bug!!

If it's any consolation, my latte art has been described in similarly unflattering terms (e.g., "onion", "fuzzy pine tree", "white barn owl"). Oh, your comment reminds me of one of my son's jokes, with apologies in advance:

Q. What do you call a blind deer?
A. No eye deer.

Q. What do you call a blind deer that can't move?
A. Still no eye deer.

Read the answer a couple times, it will eventually make sense. :?

That, sir, is a laurel. I know because I've poured it many a time. Half of the creativity of latte art is knowing what you have created. See my discussion on 'Latte Fine Art' in this thread: Clicky ; >
