Rancilio Silvia or Gaggia New Baby?

I'm trying to decide between a Silvia or save some money and buy a gaggia new baby. My basic question is this. Would I notice a difference between the espresso from the Silvia vs the gaggia? My only experience right now is a Saeco Magic Comfort Plus super automatic. I don't drink espresso from it but rather pull a long shot of about 5 oz. I guess I'm making an americano of sorts. Anyway, I feel like I want more control than my super automatic can give me. I'm must not sure if I should save $300 and go for the less expensive gaggia if the shot's are going to be similar. Someone slap some sense into me.

Never mind, now I'm considering the Expobar Lever. I figure I'll cut one step out of the upgrade path this way.
