I am not sure how many of you plan on rebuilding a La Pavoni lever to either save money or are just upgrading the heating element from one of the elderly model types. But if you try to buy an element be ready to have quite the shock delivered to your pocket book!

The price of La Pavoni heating elements has just risen by over 100%. I am currently rebuilding another basket case and when I contacted one of my internet suppliers; I was quoted the price of $188.00 for just the heating element (no gasket) plus shipping! I have bought a number of them over the past 2 years for around 75.00 plus shipping.

So if any of you out there are on Ebay and looking for a rebuild job... consider that your overhead just went through the roof! Why buy a broken down Europiccola for 100.00 - 150.00 or more and then know that you are looking at least another 200.00 or so to get it on the launch pad!?

Did the price double everywhere or just in Olympia?

You have to shop around a bit more. A lot of parts vendors don't have good web sites either.

$70 here: http://www.espressoservices.co.uk...acement_parts.html (I've never actually used them.)

You might email/call espressorepair.com. I understand they specialize in Europiccolas. (I bought a basket from them. Cheap, quick, friendly.)

I have used espressoservices, and they're excellent. Their prices are very good, too. Plus, they know their stuff. Not sure what shipping to US will be, though (they're in Scotland).

Hmmm... it seems as if there are a variety of online sources that offer espresso parts and it also seems that their prices can vary quite a bit. I wonder if it would be worth starting a forum just for those who would like to find parts sources for their precious and sometimes rare machines. I think it would be agreat service to those that are genuine home barista enthusiasts! :D
