I'm planning to replace my Silvia and Rocky soon (probably with Quick Mill Andreja and Mazzer Mini, but I'm still deciding) and am going to sell my Rancilio gear on eBay to recoup some of that cost. I want to make them as attractive as possible for sale, and of course to give their next owner a good experience. If you were going to buy a used version of either of these, what would you want to have been done to them?

Both are just over five years old. I plan to give them a thorough cleaning of course, to replace Silvia's group gasket and dispersion screen, and to replace Rocky's burrs. What else would you do?

It's very thoughtful of you to take such care, what to add... maybe a good descaling? If you really want to go to the extreme, get one of those thin brushs used to clean CamelBak sports water systems for the silicone supply tubes. They can get icky inside. The final point is the packaging. Double-box, pack accessories separately, drain the boiler just in case, use solid core foam (not "peanuts"). Same for Rocky, that is, remove the hopper, secure the accessories separately, double-box, etc.

Before I sold my Rocky, I took off the spout, the hopper and the upper burr. I cleaned the hopper of coffee oils, the chute and spout of all coffee as well as the burrs and the chamber of coffee that had accumulated. I then reassembled, checked the zero point and set it at the point where I ground for espresso to make it easier for the purchaser to get going. I also advised the buyer of the above as well as gave some tips for the use of the grinder. Naturally I packaged the grinder in the original box along with the manual.

I have not had a Silvia, so I cannot comment on it, but I concur with Dan's comments.
