The water safety light should not be lit. When that switch is "open", virtually all power to the machine is cut off.

It sounds like there is a problem with the water level safety switch under the reservoir. Lift and then push down on the reservoir repeatedly.
Do you hear a "Click with each lift and release?

If YES then access the switch. You will find three wires connected to the switch. If you remove and jumper the two black wires (connect them electrically together) and the machine now works, you need to replace the switch and all will be well.

If NO CLICK, then there is a problem with either the switch or the adjustment of the actuator level or screw.
