Mmmm. GS/3.

Well, since I had to forgo the GS3, I thought I should at least show why. This morning at 10am I became the happy owner of a redwood forest. It's bare land. So my first shot of espresso will be powered by a bank of batteries. But I'm thrilled. A fifteen year search has finally ended.

Like learning espresso, some things take time. I guess the GS3 will have to wait. But they sure look nice.Image

hmm.. redwood aye? Has anyone ever made an entirely wooden espresso machine? Well only the frame and panels etc, not sure how well a redwood boiler would work :p.

Theres a challenge for you - first person to build a wooden espresso machine wins a prize!

As soon as I finish my house, I'll get right on it.

Mmm, the nice woody taste of tan bark.

Oh, I almost forgot. The neighbor is the local coffee roaster. Thanksgiving Coffee, if I recall. How cool is that?

Sharp eyes!

Walked up to it one morning to find it split into a "group ring" and a group cap. Suspect the heat from the group head caused the plastic fatigue from the frequent on/off use. I expected better material used by LM. :(

JV!
Hats off to you! I love the idea of having a pro machine in the house (or home office). why did you go for the two group instead of one group if the machine is for home use?

OK, so it's not redwood, but . . .

By the way, after the 7.1 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake destroyed downtown Santa Cruz (along with parts of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge), the streets downtown had to be dug up to repair the broken water mains. What they found [u]below[/] the 100-year old mains made from cast iron were even older water mains made from hollowed out redwood logs!

Cheers,
Jason

P.S. have to rush out to grab a flight to Canada; will post home set-up when I get back.

This is my first attempt to post a pic so I hope it works. Home setup is a La Marzocco GS with MM. For brew it is the Royal Vacuum system seen in the corner. Machine is plumbed-in and drained. Well, to a bucket anyway.

Thanks Alexander. I got the 2 group because that's what I was able to get...plus it was an EE version and I prefer that over the silly electronic stuff. Are you thinking of upgrading to a Linea?

cheers.

Let me know when you are coming. You may hit town when we are doing a session and are most welcome to do some hands-on with a Diedrich IR12. I've had several itinerants from a.c. stop and have a go with a load of Sumatra Mandheling or whatever. We can also put you on the unused end of an LM 4 group to hone a few skills. I always learn more this way than I teach.

Thanks. The artwork is a ceramic piece from a very dear friend who is a local artist. It is a quetzal which is found in the tropics.
