One minute I was reading the posts about commercial lever machines and looking at my little Olympia and the next thing I know I am biddng on a Gaggia on ebay# 7621210191. I am now the proud owner of a large 1975 Gaggia one group. I have to find a place to put it where the wife won't notice.

It should fit in your coffin. I suspect it will be a closed-casket affair.

A very common problem. I'm surprised we have not had a thread dedicated to this important technical topic before now (although Dr. Jim has addressed the legal limit to the number of espresso machines that constitute grounds for divorce).

I've become convinced that commercial machines are the way to go for really consistent espresso, so I'll be looking forward to your posts.

Enjoy pulling your lever.

What a dilemma, I am sure the wife will understand. This obsession. It is for a noble cause. The elusive godshot. I think you might be close.

You think a single group lever is bad, you should have seen the wife's face when I dropped the two group in...

I was wondering if anyone would buy that machine. It's certainly beautiful; I've been watching (drooling over) the auction for a couple days. Many congratulations.

So it's set up for gas....gonna run it that way, or use the electric element?

I am told the gas is impractical for home use, it take a long, long time to heat up, the flame stays on all the time and it doesn't have an autofill.

I'd stick with the electric, too. My Palanca came from the factory with both a gas heater and a 240 volt electric. I've never used the gas because of exactly what you said. The gas would be great if you decide to ever use it in a mobile coffee bar. Is your heating element 120 or 240? Did they install a good commercial pressurestat?

Gatewood,
Take a look at cannonfodder's two-group, add levers and you'll have a close approximation of my Palanca. Why don't you buy it from me (I'll make you a good deal  ) and then tell us about the look on your husband's face when you drop it in . . .

Well, Bill, I'm tempted. But not yet. I'm still learning my way around my EPG-8, and a commercial machine will have to be in my future. But it's out there.....

don't think my husband will complain; like I said, I'm the Wife. And he's getting caffeine addicted....

Yes, Gatewood, I understand completely. My wife, known by me as 'she who must be obeyed' has a magnet on the icebox that says "The opinions of the husband in this household are not necessarily those of the management".
'She' did consent to my bringing the Palanca in from the garage, but now that she's seen the relatively small size of the Conti Prestina I bought on Ebay, my marching orders are to sell the Palanca. Such is life!

Put that Palanca back in the garage and get her thoroughly caffeine addicted. Your life will go much more easily, and if your garage isn't wired for electricity and water, maybe that's a future option.

That Palanca sounds nice. I am looking at an old faema two group lever machine but I am wondering if it will be too much of a hassle to use in my home. I guess I could put it in the garage. And run a 220 extension cord from my house and a garden hose to hook up the water.
Actually the machine looks like it needs alot of work so it may be a decoration for a bit.

So I may have my first commercial machine pretty soon. Maybe I will put it in the studio and open up a little private cafe.

But this is it. After this one, NO MORE, well maybe the Caravel.

I am going to have to sell alot of sculptures at my show next month.

My wife already almost killed for my newest project, next to the caravel from last month, this month project is a commercial single group pump machine...

So I guess, next to my wife, you guys will kill me too for buying a not-lever machine :)

At least with this machine, I have no difficulties finding a portafilter

Jasper ,I have posted this before and in dealing with the wife there is just 1 thing to remember.

It is easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask permission  ! Works for me so far and we were just 10 yrs last month and so far she has only managed to shoot me once ( of maybe better to change that to hit )

So funny!

Getting more lever machines is much cheaper than an affair.

Cheaper too than a mid-life crisis sports car.

Or combine the two: A mid-lfe crisis sports car and young lady in the passenger seat.
