Hi guys,

I'm new here, live in Amsterdam and I've been a coffee/espresso geek for quite some time now, but never got really involved.
I have bought the ECM Botticelli II 1 year ago and since I was pleased with the results. Used mainly pre-ground coffee.

Until I found out about this site and the many reviews/tips etc. on the espresso subject.
I want to take it to the next level, so I need to buy a good grinder. I've read about the Mazzer Mini, but would like to know if there are any grinders around for $250 max that will to the job for now?
And I guess the ECM will be fine too?
Also books, websites that can learn me all the basics are very welcome.

Cheers!

The Rocky Rancilio, Cunill Tranquilo, and Gaggia MDF are frequently cited as lower-cost alternatives to Mazzer grinders.

The topics under Getting Started on the Resources will get you started. Jim's The Home Barista's Guide to Espresso is required reading for newbies and experienced baristas alike.

The entry level grinder in Europe is the Demoka at around 200 euro. This has ca 50mm commercial burrs and a 1/4 HP motor, a stepless adjustment, but no doser. The grind quality is the same as any small commercial grinder, the compromise is noise and mess. For quiet operation, the Rocky or Tranquilo are the cheapest commercial parts grinders.
