I've asked this before, many, many months ago, and nary a response.

Would some Expobar owner out there please pull your auto refill probe and measure it for me? Pretty please?

I no longer have my original probe. I've played around with various lengths, but I'd like to have the original spec for reference.

TIA,
Jeremy

thanks [insert your name here]. It is a very simple procedure on my unit. I'll post some more pics later tonight or tomorrow. If your machine is setup the same as mine, it could take you less than one minute from start to finish.

I'd appreciate the assistance.

Not sure what model you have, but on tests on all current expobar models, such as the Pulser, Leva, Brewtus (hopefully your boiler is the same size), the amount of water you can extract from the boiler if you

Get the machine up to operating temperature
Switch off
Open water tap and drain into a jug

Is 600ml

If you get less than this raise the probe by an appropriate amount, of you get more...lower it. When you find the right point you can make it permanent if you want.

You will know the boiler diameter, can measure it, so the calculation is easy.

Pi x radius squared, gives the area of the cylinder multiply by cm in height for the amount extra or more to raise the probe.

e.g. for a boiler with a 9cm diameter R squared =20.25
Pi = 3.14 so Approx 63 cm area.

If the probe is raised by 1cm, you will get 63 ml more water, if lowered by 1cm, 63ml less.

It's Jonathan. 2xLP == 2x Long Play records == 4 letter domain name that was still available when i bought it for internet consulting.

I've got an early model Expobar Office Control myself -- one of the enameled ones (mine is in brick red). I think that means its at least 5 years old. Could be wrong.

Anyways, the probe is just shy of 4.5" long. I didn't get a good measurement, as I didn't have a ruler -- just a measuring tape with the weird angle, and I didn't want my tools or anything touching the probe part.

If i had to guess, i'd say ~ 4.375. Thats from the top of the spade to the bottom of the point.

Thanks. My unit is a white one, made in 2001. I really appreciate your help in measuring the probe.

Thanks Dave,

I'll try this procedure on mine and see what I get.

Well the expobar boilers on the current models are 1.5 litres (just checked my records)...remember though even if your boiler is 1.5 litres, I don't know if they are "dimensionally" identical (same width and height).

Best of luck

Dave

P.S. To be honest and not to overthink the whole issue, you might just want to measure half way down your boiler and stick the probe in that far, or possibly 40% in (e.g. boiler 25cm high, stick the probe in 10 cm). In all likelihood this will actually be fine. Just remember the HX rule for boilers of this configuration.

The lower the water level = hotter the brew temp & weaker steaming (in terms of stamina)
The higher the water level = cooler brew temps and stronger steaming (in terms of stamina)

perhaps the opposite of what you would expect...but true.

Javier, my friend. I haven't talked with you in ages. I hope all is well with you and yours. Merry Christmas, and thanks for the Expobar info.

Have a great new year.
