I know it's already discussed to death, but I couldn't find any specific recommendation on what naked portafilter actually works, troubleless, with Silvia; all I saw were complaints on non-perfect-match-ness, if I may say so.

So, where would you recommend to get a good, well-working naked portafilter?

Please bear in mind I'm in Canada, so some vendors with $50 UPS shipping for a single basket are out of my reach.

Thanks!!

Chris' Coffee sells the stock Rancilio portafilter with the bottom milled out. The finish on the milled portion is very clean. I don't have a Silvia, but I imagine their PF would fit just fine, since it's a Rancilio product to begin with.

get a stock PF and have it milled or turned on a lathe. I have cut three using a bimetal hole saw and a drill press. Under the chrome they are brass and easily worked.

Shipping from Chris' Coffee is $66.95 :)

I won't be able to mod the stock portafilter myself, and I think it will be cheaper to find something from US then to send it there for modding and back...

It's kinda strange - it seems almost everyone on this board uses naked portafilter, but few mentioned where to buy one... well, beyond Chris' Coffee, which unfortunately doesn't offer realistic shipping options for me

Have you tried Espresso Parts NW? They have some "used" bottomless portafilters that they're clearing out for $20 and I believe they might fit a Silvia - you should probably confirm that with them first, and if you request it they'll ship USPS which might be cheaper. I hesitate to pay $15-20 for shipping let alone what you're seeing at over $60 lol. I guess that's a last resort if you really need that and can't find within Canada.

I was trying to find the info about these fitting the Silvia, but that was a different E-61 portafilter. EPNW might know if their $20 bottomless would fit but if it does then that's a pretty good price before shipping. Some say USPS for international shipping is cheaper than something like UPS or FedEx.

Espressotec in Vancouver sells one.

I got it last week for my brand new Silvia and it fits perfectly (as it should as it is made out of Rancilio stock to begin with, according to the website).

I bought it in person, but they do internet orders. I tried shipping options and to Vancouver it'd be $10 or $18 expedited, both through Canada post.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from US until a few years ago and made a point of not doing business with US companies that only shipped via UPS to Canada. Luckily, most companies offer at least USPS if not FedEx which was the best courier for shipping from US.
