Hi everyone,

I'm disassembling my Major and today I've discovered a screw which I haven't seen before:

Image

I'm guessing it's holding the base of the doser in place and when it's removed it's possible to take off the sides of the doser completely. Am I talking rubbish or not? It seems as the base of the doser can be separated from the sides but I always thought it's welded together. Can someone confirm this?

After unscrewing it I did try to push the bottom of the doser out, but it was painted with a lot of paint and I will first have to remove the paint and that try. I just want to be sure if it's at all possible, because I don't want to be separating something which is not suppose to be separated:D (and breaking something also)

Cheers,
dsc.

I recently had the doser on my Mazzer Mini apart and it had a pop rivet instead of the screw shown in your photo. Lino repaired a few of the "Tagex" Super Jolly grinders and confirms they had the same pop rivet, which appears to hold the cast aluminum bottom in place. IIRC, the steel doser wrap also had a couple spot welds where the two ends meet while yours does not. Is yours one of the older cast aluminum doser bodies? That may explain the difference...

It's your grinder, but if it were mine, I would not bother with further disassembly unless it's broken. I'd work around it in situ and then move on to other projects.

Hi Dan,

thanks for your reply. The screw is probably there to hold the bottom of the doser and yes it is an older Major model (not sure how old, but I'm guessing maybe 10 years?). I tried tapping the doser bottom with a hammer, but it wouldn't move. It might be stuck with all the paint around the edges or simply spot welded as you mentioned. There's no need to remove the part anyway, I was just curious what it does:) It would probably be easier to straighten the sides of the doser as it was quite badly bent, but I guess I will have to do it with the bottom in place. I will try how it goes after paint stripping, nitro gel should be able to loosen the joints a bit (by removing the paint).

Cheers,

Hi,

well I found out what that damn screw is for:) it holds the clicker/counter of the doser in place. I know that because I removed it, lost it and couldn't attach the counter;) in the end I replaced it with an ordinary screw.

Anyway, mystery solved.

Cheers,
