hey Grant,

I can answer the question for Chris. The project is ongoing and has been put on hold untold times due to other commitments and overall responsibilities. We are documenting all of the work and will post the end results rather than a step by step. I hope everyone that is interested in this project enjoys the resulting work. Malachi's ideas are very basic, but should result in a very usable machine.

Hi Terry,

Any news? Is the Monstercafe.com project off?

Thanks for a short update.

I don't know if the project is on or off, but the domain name registration expired on 3/18/06.

Still patiently waiting for any update. If the project is totally dead please let us know. While I'm very happy with my (mostly) stock Bric' these past seven months (insulated the boiler), always open for tweaks and improvements! There is this "spare" PXR3 and SSR laying around I should either integrate or sell... Don't really think killing the pstat would greatly if at all improve the shot or shot temp stability, but the click would go away.

The last I heard from Chris about a month ago was that the 'planning, testing and prototyping was done' and that they were 'looking for some troublesome parts'. Guess this means the Monster Bric project is still on :D

Maybe you post some pictures of your (PID'd) machine in the meantime?

Well......here's a bit of info, that should ease some minds.

Since we started with this idea, espressoparts has been revamped! Mr. Tacy, whom played an important role in this company remodel is also the unfortunate benefactor of a long lost project.

So here's the deal, we moved to a bigger and better space and have created more creative space to complete projects of this nature. So with that said, Monstor Bricco is still on and looking to be completed soon. The mods are very simple, yet, time is difficult to find in the midst of all of our restructuring.

The good news is we will do far more than just this project, and will be offering up modification services.

Now go figure this.....Chris has been without a machine all this time due to how lame I've been with regards to completion, but don't worry, I think he is well on his way to being "Taken Care of" :D

Is almost there any closer to being there yet? I know it's only been another month plus change. I'll continue patiently impatiently waiting.

Starting doing some research on my own and discovered what one of those "troublesome parts" may be: a dual gauge that'll fit the existing hole. I've had no luck so far...

Do you think we would leave Chris without a machine? Dragon boat racing takes stamina, that only espresso can provide. Chris is in good hands and the Bric? Well, that's another story.

Subtle...
Impressive...
Crazy...
Not the predictable direction...
Solves the problem.

Details and photos and test results will begin to appear on the blog in the next week.

Waiting on a piece of plumbing to start serious testing. UPS is the bane of my existence.
Have been able to do some "rough" and not formalized testing without this piece of gear... but have not been able to really put the monster through its paces.

First impressions are:
- addresses some of the challenges/limitations of the Bricc but without degrading some of the positives,
- gives greater flexibility for the barista without introducing either complexity or randomness,
- manual and gentle pre-infusion provides some interesting opportunities,
- removing the case to enable tinkering presents some increased opportunties for burns.

You guys are really working this crowd over - the suspense is killing us! :? Could you post a list of the basic modifications? I understand a complete report is coming, but you could give us a few of the juicy details. :)

Ah come on, have a little patience. I mean the original projected project completion was January and it's only early April. What's that, originally targeted for January '06 not '07 you say? Never mind.
