Has anyone had a chance to try the new espresso shop, the Mercury Dime (5th st bet 2nd and 3rd ave, NYC)?

They are pulling a custom blend designed by Stephen Schulman, the man (and the legend) behind Dallis coffee.

I haven't posted on here for a long while, but I did want to give them a glowing review - I like how they pull a blend driven by some very unique Ethiopians (including a Beloya and a very nice Chichu), and most importantly, double shots. Don't get me wrong, I like a nice, intense shot from 9th Street, but I really like the direction the Dime is heading in (haven't seen a place quite like it).

Would be curious to hear other's thoughts on it.

This unassuming quiet cafe is run by a soft-spoken and amiable chap who is earnestly intent
on pleasing his customers. Upon entering The Mercury Dime you know that TJ Siegal, the principal and barista behind the counter, is serious with a Faema 2 group & Robur and an unabashedly delicious desire to fine-tune his methods to succeed. Just three weeks old and a work in progress, this small but comfortable cafe is a duplex, having 4 tables on each of its 2 floors. The latte was very good and a complimentary French Press was balm for my harried soul.

TJ works 6 days a week from 7:00 AM till 8:00 PM (his day off is Wednesday, when another barista assumes the helm). Address: 246 East 5th Street. Phone: 212-533-3295.
