I've seen oh so long ago a wall mounted manual grinder with a glass container to pour the beans in.
It looked pretty old, but I've been trying to track one down ever since.
Can anyone recommend where I might start looking for something like this.

Ebay, do a search for 'wall mounted coffee grinder'. I see 16 right now.

Not sure where you are located but try a search for Zassenhaus coffee mills. I know they make some very nice looking wall mountable models. As far as I know they are the best current source for new (and good) manual grinders.

Sweet Maria's has a page about them here:

I know Zass has wall mountable models and SM used to carry them. Not sure where you could find their wall mountable models...

I have a Zass 171KD. It is fine but oddly designed as the coffee makes a right angle into the burrs (from straight down to 'at the wall'.... I think it would be more efficient if the beans went straight down through (like they do in their box grinders. It does a nice job for my Europiccola but it's a bit slow. I recently picked up a 175M (the Turkish Mill).

It's wonderful. It does as good a job as the 171KD in 1/4 the time. It's harder to control (not being wall mounted you have to hang on to it) but it's small, seems durable and just a joy to use. Added bonus, the bottom (where the coffee grounds fall) fits right into the Europiccola's filter basket, making loading it almost automatic (I had to scoop the coffee out of the plastic hopper of the 171KD). Recommended!

Just saw a pair of Zassenhaus 175Ms go up on eBay for buy it now of $40! Wow! Okay, they are used and shipping from Germany is $16, but still, you have a LOT of trouble even finding these things.

In case anyone wants to know.

Ken,

I just picked them both up yesterday, before I saw your post. Combined shipping for a total of 96$ for two; i'll probably sell one off after I test them. Just not sure when these are gonna be available in the states again! I'll do a dissasemble and review if anybody is interested in seeing what the inside of a 50+ year old Zass mill looks like! The general feel seems to be they will last a lifetime and are servicable.

cheers,

Congratulations Dan, I was hoping someone here would grab them. They look to be in good condition. I'll be interested to hear if that's true.

As I mentioned. I did just get one. Espressozone found a return still in the box. I was psyched! It's a great little grinder. (during the process I did exchange emails with Zassenhaus who said these should be back in the supply chain next month... We'll see).
