elektra machine will be arriving in 3 days, still havent decided on its mate in a grinder. wondering if anyone has had a good experience with a manual grinder? i've never used one. or are the obvious grinders simply the way to go....

Hi lotak,

I hope you are as thrilled with your Elektra as I am with mine. On the grinder I find that my Mazzer is an excellent match. One thing I notice is that I need to adjust the grind constantly. The stepless system on the Mazzer (and others) makes this adjustment quite easy. I roast all my own beans and I find that over the first 7 days one has to adjust the grind gradually. Since the pressure and the spring pressure on an Elektra are fixed I note that grind, tamp and basket fill make dramatic differences. Just pulled three shots with 2 day old Yemen SO beans. First was ground too loose, second too tight and the third I nailed fairly well.

I think the main thing is to get involved in studying and enjoying the subtle changes that make such a difference.

Tell us how it goes.
