I have a Bunn ES-1A. It is a HX, direct plumb, rotary E-61 system. It has developed a loud rattly groan (intermittently) when the pump is running. The machine has a newly-rebuilt pump. The noise can occur when pulling a shot, but seems to usually be initiated by a boiler refill cycle. I have heard this on occasion before the pump was rebuilt. Once the rattle is "turned on", it can occur during a shot as well. The two things that have been suggested as a possible cause is a clogged water filter, diminishing the water flow & causing cavitation. The other suggested cause is a fluttering/stuck/broken refill solenoid.
The easiest approach was to replace the water filter to see if the problem stopped. I did, and the noise still occurs. It can stop as suddenly as it starts. Through the horrific noise, the machine still seems like it functions properly.
Here is a quick video I shot of the machine with both normal sound & the rattle occurring.
If anyone has any experience with/ or ideas about how to fix this problem (or a possible other cause), I'd really appreciate your input.
(Thanks to CraigA for his help already on this issue - its always appreciated)
Thanks all,
David
