Hi!
Glad you enjoy it!
I fully restored this machine, and it works fine (much like a mk1 Gaggia Gilda, I believe). As you see the lever is bended and short, and thus it takes some practice to create a brewing pressure high enough to produce decent crema.
Cheers,
F

Hi,

Here is my '83 Cremina with her new ebony knobs and handles custom made by the genius Richard Penney. A matching ebony handled tamp and one of his famous nude PF's are on the way soon!

My Cremina arrived today...safe and sound...just a small dent on the outside box, courtesy of our friends in the brown truck.
She is as advertised...at least from the outside....not a scratch...even the baskets look as new...the PF looks unused, though (as the seller pointed out) there is a small amount of chrome scratched off the side of the PG...tiny. This machine...How beautifully elegant in its simplicity.

Very nice. You really lucked out. The 2 machines that sold after yours went for hundreds more each. Have fun with it.

Thanks....truthfully, I had no idea I had a chance...
So far...no leaks, not a drip.
I'll post a picture of a shot...when I get one that's worthy....but don't hold your breath

If Richard's work isn't beautiful enough, he's as nice a person as you'd ever want to speak with. Makes you cherish his work even more. I will be getting a PF too...if he'll hold one for me till we pay for the new water pressure pump we have to install.

Eu falo o português somente um pouco, e eu falo-o muito mal. It has to do with years in the wine trade, bringing in Porto to the United States. I am very fortunate that many people in in the wine trade -- in Oporto and V.N. da Gaia, as well as in the Douro itself -- speak English as well or better than I do! I can order lunch, or um café zinho but that's about it!

Cheers,
Jason

1952 Gaggia Spagna (needs work)

Link to "Lever Espresso Machine Gallery"by PaulM on Wed May 07, 2008 12:23 pm

Follow this link on Kijiji to see this cool baby for sale. 1952 Gaggia Spagna. It apparently needs some restoration. BTW, this is not mine and I'm not selling it. Just noticed it and thought you folks would be interested.

I couldn't decide if it should be a AeroXpress or a AeropressX, as a nod to its juicer roots, a la OrangeX. However, I think AeroXpress is a little cooler.

When I got down to a grind size that I had to use my arm and body weight to press the coffee, something had to give. Also, I almost launched the press, container, and coffee across my desk. It still needs some work, but it allows for a very easy pressing at the high end of a fine grind. I haven't dialed it down any further...yet.

:!: That is a great Idea! :!: I think that a lot of folks will be doing that as a traveler! Heat water in the motel pourover and Eureka!!! Considering the extra cost for another bag, or for checking one, you may have solved the travelers' caffiene problem!
Thanks
Richard / Espressme
PS, they still sometimes have the juicers in Marshall's and TJ Maxx at a savings.

I realized from the previous post that there isn't really a sense of scale in the photo. The rod is a 20" substitute for the original 7/8" x 12" rod to accommodate the AeroPress fully extended. This setup really isn't a candidate for lugging around. One of the $20.00 squeeze directly into the cup models might do it if there is enough vertical travel. If not, you could cut down the AeroPress cylinder (or wait for Aerobie to come out with a half-height travel model, hint, hint).

Since the proof is in the pressing, here is the first shot. It is a scoop and a half (21g, give or take) of Big Bend Coffee Roasters Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, my favorite (sorry, I didn't have any stale beans around :) ) and 3 ounces of water. Mixed for 10 second and pressed. Thick, smooth, and tasty.

While off topic on taking your coffee along when you travel, this ZassenDecker might be just the ticket. The driver runs at a max of 180 rpm, has a clutched drive, and is rechargeable. There is a D-8 coupling nut hiding under the deep socket. I saw a nice motorization of a Zass on the board, but this one doesn't take any special skills, other than going to the hardware store.
