Sweet! The Dalla Corte is a much more desireable machine than the Gaggia they were offering. Game on!

I guess they realized that people who are advanced enough to be really good at latte art are not really motivated by a Gaggia Baby. The Baby definitely did not make me think, "I wish I was good at latte art!" but the Dalla Corte sure as heck did!!

Hi,

well I might enter as well, although it's always a PITA when you can pour a nice art with no camera and tend to draw blobs with the camera on.

It's always "damn it, if only I had my camera on my forehead":)

Cheers,

Wow, How do you do it?

My art is pathetic, a heart is about all I can do right now...

Here is my latest, slightly less embarrassingly bad Latte Art.

Nice work, Edwin! That tulip looks great. I'm impressed at the quality of your art, especially since Gaggia machines aren't known for their steaming abilities.

Looks like you took the advice to upgrade the grinder before the machine very seriously. If you win, that Dalla Corte would look great next to your Compak grinder.

I entered the contest too, but so far it looks like I'm way behind on the voting. I'd vote for you, but I already selfishly voted for myself.

I am so happy to hav found this thread. I hav to tell you that I hav learned a great deal in just watching the video's...some latte art I already do better than..most I don't, but the technique is so hard to absorb from mere text, that the video shows with such ease ('a picture is worth a thousand words' sort of thing..) and makes an hour's worth of reading come together in just a few minutes.

I am even absorbing some of the technique in dosing as I still hav problems with ~some~ of my pours. I hav owned an Expobar Brewtus II and a Mazzer Mini grinder for alnmost a year now. I keep wondering what I'm doing wrong and hav read (at exhaustive length!) about dosing, etc on how to get 'less watery' and more consistent pours, and I see some things in the video's on how to dose into the portafilter that I will be trying, so Thank you for including that part in your vid's.

One question; I see some tamping twice and yet I hav read about only tamping once (and only once! with the exclamation point! lol) so was wondering about that. Any information truly appreciated, but again I hav read a LOT on many threads about dosing, clumping, tamping, etc so I had resigned myself to 'just settle' for what I am currently getting in my pours, but I am anxious to do far better. (If I could hav 4 pure, perfect ristretto's every A.M. I would be Happy). Again, THANKS for this thread...it's terrific! :!:

Either tamping method works. Most of the two tamps involve a light tamp to settle the coffee bed, a tap to dislodge the stray grinds around the basket, then tamp to full pressure. I don't like the tap, personally I think it does more harm than good although I used to do it. Now I just distribute, tamp and go.
