Just reading CoffeeGeek and they are talking about a raffle at the SCAA show for a La Marzocco GS3 at SCAA show with tickets for $5. (Did I miss this here!)

Does this mean they have a release date????? I'm dying to hear how it goes in someones home.

Yeah that's the word! Exciting eh? If you buy $50.00 worth of tickets you get an "I Want It Bad" T-shirt. I'm giving careful consideration to that.

Over on CG there are a few folk (myself included) that are trying to find someone to purchase said $50 worth of ticks. So far, no one in Charlotte has the time or the inclination. If anyone there could find a way for those to be purchased either online, or by phone or something, I'd bet that they could raise a few more bucks! If your there, ask the questions, would ya?

So excited :D Bizarre series of circumstances. My sister came for dinner. A friends husband is in the US for a coffee show.

I inquired .... Would that be Charlotte? 2 emails and 30 mins later I have the promise of a single ticket. I'm in!!!!!!!

Never has US$5 given me so much excitement. I didn't dream for a second I would have a chance of a ticket :D :D

You are all very welcome to visit Sydney Australia if I win and try some of the worlds best coffee (courtesy of Dean Morgan coffee"morgansgreen.com.au"). If I don't win you can always try his coffe on a perfectly adequate Cimbali Junior.

Rosemary .... very excited :D :D

This is the closest I got to winning the raffle:

Jessica helped me fill out my tickets and cheerfully posed for this photo

I was a couple rows ahead of the lucky lady named Paula who won yesterday, but didn't catch her last name. They announced that over $8000 was raised for CoffeeKids.

My local roaster won some awards for his South American coffee.

Anyway, he had the magazine from the show, and prominently featured was an ad for the GS3 raffle.

Forget the raffle, I'm ready to buy the sucker!

Damn I wish I had noticed your post earlier... That might have been something we could have done.

As it turns out the winner sat directly in front of TerryZ and I, that was as close as we got.

The oddest thing about the whole drawing was that I think the parents of Matt Riddle or his girlfriend's parents won the GS3. Guess they have 2 La Marzocco GS3s eh?

They couldn't have predicted something like that to happen I mean what are the odds. I wonder if they shouldn't have declined ticket purchases from competitors or family of competitors since the winner was getting a GS3 as well.

I dunno, they announced that they sold around $8000 worth of tickets, so the pool wasn't that large. With a similar irony, Bob Roseman (a member of Team HB) won the EspressoFest doorprize - choice of Illy cups from Chris' Coffee Service (no, my name wasn't in that drawing ;-)).

I sure as heck would have bought $50 in tickets if it could have been arranged - I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yeah Dan is right I bet that $8000 could have been a whole lot more. However I could see ESI wanting it to remain an exclusive for SCAA attendees too, that may not have been the case, they just might not have thought about taking non-attendee ticket orders.

Oh well either way the money went to a great cause.

If the goal was to raise money for a good caue, I'd take the cash from life-imprisoned child molester cannibals. Now, if the goal was to get folk to actually go to the event, I don't think that the raffle would overcome whatever was keeping us away in the first place...

That was hilarious... And true it was to raise money. I heard they had 10,000 tickets and really I kinda expected more to sell as well.

Wonder who and when.... ?

Well, clearly ESI is going to be a source.

Now, will Terry or Chris?

And the big question is, W H E N ?

I bet Bill Crossland was asked that question every five minutes. He should have had it written across his forehead! As I recall correctly, his response was late September. And before you ask:
  • The reported price hasn't changed: $4500
  • He said it's targeted for the home market, despite widespread reports to the contrary.
I believe that Terry is keeping "the list"; I've heard nothing from Chris either way.

Wow, I am really slipping -- two typos in one day (Colombia, not Columbia in another thread).

this is as bad as waiting for Anita was when I graduated from my Saeco. OK, I've got to get Terry a deposit and get my name on the list.

Bill Crossland should have considered a temporary tattoo or henna or something.

I'm really confused, now. I thought this draw was over. Is it still going on somehow?

edit: OK, just figured it out; you folks are waiting for it to be available? For $4500? Sheesh! I thought I had a problem!

The raffle was legal under North Carolina law, but illegal (or required state registration) in Washington and most other states under their gambling laws. I was told ESI's lawyers had vetted the raffle.

Marshall "would have been illegal on the Internet under Federal law, too"
