Looks great, but also HUGE! I wonder if it will fit in everyone's kitchen. I suspect the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) may be an issue for some people.

Agree with you there, but on the other hand, the Alex is very well in proportion and the Duetto is no different in that.
It is big but it really isn't huge.
My girl loves the machine, and really haven't said anything about it's size in a negative way.

She loves her coffee too much and me making it ;)

Sebastian,

Thanks for the photos! I keep waiting for Chris to open the floodgates for the initial purchase of $2,000. I'm seriously considering upgrading from my Alexia once this becomes available.

One mod I'd make right off the bat is to change the steam arm to the no-burn that Chris offers on the QM Anita and now Alexia (same valves as the Alex).

Can't wait to see videos of it in action.

The no-burn steamwand is very handy and clean, but i don't like the look of it on this machine though.
I tried it too but it looks too hmm..rough for this design and this steamwand tip is very easy to clean.
It is the straight one they had before on the Alex and Vivi and personally i like it a lot.

Oh, for anyone wondering steaming in a .35 cl jug takes about 12 seconds..tadaa! :)

I will try to make a little Youtube movie next week so you can, or better, not hear the machine :)

Hi,

I believe the Elektra A3 is even bigger and yet you can still find people buying them and fitting them in the kitchen.

The drip tray looks massive, does it have a tank or is it a plumb-in only model?

Can't say I like the modern looks though, a bit 'cheap' looking with the bluish LCD and there's something weird about the placement of the gauges (that's what I didn't like about the Vivi as well). I'm guessing the legs are plastic as well? It's a PITA to pay a lot of money for a machine and still have plastic legs (same thing on the Elektra).

Regards,
dsc.

True story. At the Boston SCAA show in 2003, Steve Schulman of Dallis Coffee offered to let me pull a shot on their two group Faema Legend. This was the first time I ever saw an E-61 group. My only experience was with my Silvia, which required two hands to lock in the portafilter, using one to hold the machine steady.

So the first thing I looked for was something to grab to hold the (400 lb?) Legend "steady." You can guess what that was: the brewhead at full HX steaming temperature. I screamed in pain, while Barry Jarrett whispered to Steve "you just burned a lawyer."

Three things came out of that: 1. Blisters. 2. I learned not to grab things without knowing their function. 3. I became friends with Steve Schulman.

So, in summary, no, E-61 caution stickers do not crack me up.

I think that they are a bit silly, too. I'd prefer something along the lines of markings on explosives. I'd love to dress my lil Factory up in giant 'Warning' and 'Caution' stickers so that if the maid goes past the 'Do Not Disturb' sign she won't leave skin particles on the Tin Man's shiny carapace.
Anyone have a line on some brightly coloured stickers that'll take the heat? ;>

I understand your thoughts, but I was more referring to anyone that has knowledge of an E-61 that would be buying a machine in this class should know the group gets pretty dang hot. Not to mention that a simple "caution" or "hot" would work just as well as a huge diamond shaped sticker. Kinda mucks up the beauty of the E-61.

Yep, on the wiki from Dave C you can find most information about the Duetto.
Also the inside of the first Duetto build

Hopefully Dan and The Crew  do plan a detailed review :P
Being the first ever person on H-B to mention the machine I really do want to read one, even though I'm completely happy and satisfied with my Vivaldi.

And ya - any ideas for getting rich quick & easy - for I want Hottop, Versalab and Elektra (a Leva). And I promise to get a Semiautomatica for my parents too (after the getting rich :D )

Sorry, none is planned. There is only a handful of units coming to the US in 2008. We'll revisit this question when the production picks up.

Yes, thanks - I've read it!
I actually wish a review on H-B - I like the sites style - but anyway, I will not cry :P if they don't do one.
What I'm really curious about is the temp stability and profile, there's no info on that yet (I bet yet - some happy owner probably will get a scace and measure).

If I was making my decision today, the Vivaldi and Duetto would be the two machines wchich I would have to carefully compare. Honestly, I don't know which one I would end with (but don not read this as an weird case of upgrade fever - that would be a same-level-grade-fever!)
