Hello, any Mondiale owners out there? Is the machine really 14.5 inches wide? (I got this dimension off of Google's cached CC page.) This seems way too big and from the picture of the machine w/ a 58 mm portafilter across the drip tray, it seems closer to 10 inches.

Thanks,

I had one briefly from Chris' Coffee and it was sold to a friend, David Morris (beta14ok), if you need precise measurements. The Isomac site lists the Mondiale with these dimensions:
    Height: 430 mm
    Width: 340 mm
    Depth: 485 mm
Width is thus ~13.5 inches. Smaller than what Chris claimed, but there's no doubt it is a big machine.

Thanks, Dan. The confusing thing is that this site, isomacespresso, lists totally different dimensions and what appears to be updated specs. Is it possible they are measuring the narrowest width of the machine? Or maybe 240mm is close enough to 9.75" that someone might have fat-fingered the conversion. I'm trying to get the seller to send me actual dimensions. I'm going to have a hard time explaining that much counter space...

I'll post actuals later today or this weekend.

She's a big-un! and I believe that the dimensions given by Dan are gonna hold-up. The width wasn't an issue for me, but I raised the cabinet above Mondiale about 1.5" to allow for better aesthetics on the clearance for cups in the warming tray.

I've had this unit for well over a year and still love it. Blog from 2004

It's wider in the middle than it is at the footprint.

I'll measure and post this weekend.

Yep...dimensions at max are as posted by Dan............width is indeed 13.5 inches.

I'd sure wanna give it at least a clearance of 0.5-1.0 inches on each side of the install. As you'll note in the pic above, there is a round grill on the side and there is an identical grill on the other side. These are not speaker grills, but rather I presume passive air intake holes for convective cooling....or perhaps a creative cosmetic solution for finishing the sheet-metal sculpting of the side panels. The cup warmer tray keeps the cups quite warm!

Cheers,

Isomac Mondiale - Height help

Link to "Isomac Mondiale dimensions"by rudedude on Sun Oct 30, 2005 3:48 pm

Hello,

I am new to this board and I noticed you own the Isomac Mondiale. I am very interesed in buying one (looking to step up from my Rancilio Silvia). The dilemma I have is that I am not certain if it will fit under my kitchen cabinet. I see the height is listed as 430mm which translates to 16-15/16 inches. This is exactly the height I have under my cabinet. Wondering if you can give me some measurement help?

Where is the greatest height of the Mondiale? (It looks like it might have a arched bar behind the cup warmer, is that the highest part), wonder if it could be removed or bent slight if so to accomodate my height?

My cabinet is only 11 inches deep, perhaps the highest part of the Mondiale would not even be under the cabinet since the unit is curved? How far from the back of the machine is the height the greatest and what is the actual height at that point.

Really appreciate any help you might give, as you can see I am so close, I really need to get a good read on whether this machine will just fit or not.

Thank you!
Paul

I can help with this, since my Mondiale just arrived. The greatest height of the machine is the curved handle of the water reservoir -- 16 3/4". This point is 4 1/2" from the rear of the machine. It really is too close to call. Note that I don't have the direct plumb model -- not sure if there is a difference in dimensions.

The machine is as big as everyone says it is. But not overly so. I think it's gorgeous.

I like the looks. From the photo, it looks like you have a dual purpose gauge (boiler and brew pressure) and the steel handles on the PF are interesting. I would think that if you left you PF in the machine with it powered up for an hour or two that your handles would get quite hot. The steam and water knobs also appear to be SS, I would think the same would apply to them.

The portafilter handles are SS and are quite heavy. It was on for most of the day yesterday with the portafilter in place and the handle got very warm but not uncomfortably so. The "joystick" levers also stayed pretty cool.

I'll post some pictures soon. I need to get in there to tighten up the left body panel, insulate the boiler, upgrade the vacuum breaker valve, and eventually, direct plumb it. Even though it has a resevoir, the thing is tiny, 2L -- not sure why they didn't include a 3L resevoir as there's plenty of space back there. And the drip tray can hold about 30 oz, but it's wide and shallow. (I got the machine used, so I knew what I was getting in to.)

I had the rotary Isomac Mondiale in-house for an evaluation that ultimately was canceled. Ironically that machine played a part in the inception of this site (for those who are curious, the about page explains). Anyway, the picture below shows its portafilter next to the ubiquitous Faema-style one:

Image
I nicknamed it "lethal weapon" because of its weight

The original portafilter handle on the prototype would get uncomfortably hot, so Isomac added a nylon spacer that reduced it to very warm but tolerable.
