I've always been frustrated that there isn't a good coffee shop or roaster in the central NJ/Philadelphia area. However, that has since changed. There was an article in the Trenton Times last week about a coffee roaster in Lambertville.

I decided to take a trip to Rojo's Roastery today. http://www.rojosroastery.com/ It's off the beaten track in Lambertville, that is, it is about a mile from the downtown of antique shops and tourist destinations. I was very excited when I walked in the door. It's not only a roastery but a coffee shop. A lot of space in a renovated warehouse type building. I had an espresso. The espresso machine used is a Synesso. I wasn't pleased with the first shot, as it was a bit bitter. The owner, J. David Waldman, came over and pulled another shot for me. Much, much better. We then started up a conversation about coffee, roasting, etc. He's using a vintage gas-fired Probat UG-15 roaster. There are pictures of the machine on the website. David also sells some great coffee makers such as Technivorm, and sells espresso machines as well. I bought some of the beans he recommends for espresso. They were roasted on the 26th at 3:12pm. I pulled two shots when I returned home. Both were very nice with a beautiful golden brown layer of crema with hints of chocolate.
David is very personable and very knowledgeable about coffee and the coffee business. So, if you're in the area, I would highly recommend stopping by. I'm very excited to finally say that there is a good coffee shop in this area and don't mind traveling the 13 miles to buy some very good beans.

Great news!

Unfortunately they are too far from me - an hour and 10 min drive. But I'll check them out when I will be around that area.
I also loved this from the article:
"Waldman also caters to the upscale tea customer. He has a variety of teas that sell for as much as $900 a pound."
Ouch! I would have to try a cup :)

There are some aged teas that go for more than that. And you thought coffee was an expensive habit.

Lambertville is also the home of River Horse Brewery. IMHO, one of the best. Now I have two reasons to visit Lambertville.

I finally made it. Great friendly place. It is one open room which is used as a cafe, green bean storage, roaster.
Espresso and cappuccino were done very well. People were walking in with dogs - so not NYC.
Both Lambertville and New Hope across the river are great to walk around and dine.

I was in the area so I stopped in. Like you wrote above owner David Waldman is very personal and knowledgeable about coffee and the coffee bizz. I had a great time in this very friendly and lay back cafe.

On the menu they have listed French Press, Turkish coffee, Chemex & Vaccum Pot done on a Cona.
So I went for the VP, never had a VP coffee done in a cafe and since the big hoopla on the NY Time's article I went for it.
The coffee was a Rojo's roasted 31g Ethiopian Yirgacheffee, Organic-Bagersh Misty Valley prepared by Dave at my table. The Yirg was so delightful that I got some to take home along with the espresso blend.

So again if you find yourself in the area, treat yourself to some great coffee and a bit of coffee history.
I had a wonderful time talking to this very humble and knowledgeable individual.

Talk about customer service....

Ps: Thanks to the OP for passing on the info. Now I have something new to talk about when I visit Grumpy.

Enjoy, Michael

I would like to thank everyone for pointing me towards this place. I have been looking for someplace like this in my area. They also sell some great equipment, and from what I saw the prices are quite good as well.

I brought home some fresh beans and my shots improved dramatically already.

I just made another return trip to Rojo's. They now have a Clover that will be set up in the next week or so if anyone in the area is interested.
