http://www.nj.com/printer/printer...1238140.xml&coll=5I decided to take a trip to Rojo's Roastery today.
http://www.rojosroastery.com/ It's off the beaten track in Lambertville, that is, it is about a mile from the downtown of antique shops and tourist destinations. I was very excited when I walked in the door. It's not only a roastery but a coffee shop. A lot of space in a renovated warehouse type building. I had an espresso. The espresso machine used is a Synesso. I wasn't pleased with the first shot, as it was a bit bitter. The owner, J. David Waldman, came over and pulled another shot for me. Much, much better. We then started up a conversation about coffee, roasting, etc. He's using a vintage gas-fired Probat UG-15 roaster. There are pictures of the machine on the website. David also sells some great coffee makers such as Technivorm, and sells espresso machines as well. I bought some of the beans he recommends for espresso. They were roasted on the 26th at 3:12pm. I pulled two shots when I returned home. Both were very nice with a beautiful golden brown layer of crema with hints of chocolate.
David is very personable and very knowledgeable about coffee and the coffee business. So, if you're in the area, I would highly recommend stopping by. I'm very excited to finally say that there is a good coffee shop in this area and don't mind traveling the 13 miles to buy some very good beans.
I was in the area so I stopped in. Like you wrote above owner David Waldman is very personal and knowledgeable about coffee and the coffee bizz. I had a great time in this very friendly and lay back cafe.
On the menu they have listed French Press, Turkish coffee, Chemex & Vaccum Pot done on a Cona.
So I went for the VP, never had a VP coffee done in a cafe and since the big hoopla on the NY Time's article I went for it.
The coffee was a Rojo's roasted 31g Ethiopian Yirgacheffee, Organic-Bagersh Misty Valley prepared by Dave at my table. The Yirg was so delightful that I got some to take home along with the espresso blend.
So again if you find yourself in the area, treat yourself to some great coffee and a bit of coffee history.
I had a wonderful time talking to this very humble and knowledgeable individual.
Talk about customer service....
Ps: Thanks to the OP for passing on the info. Now I have something new to talk about when I visit Grumpy.
Enjoy, Michael
