Hi,

The power went out at my apt. went out last night, and now my Silvia won't heat. On the main power switch (front, top-middle of the machine, next to the indicator light), I get a dull orange glow when it is plugged in, but nothing else-no indicator light, and no power to my PID unit. The pump runs when I hit steam, brew or water. I installed the PID three months ago, and its been fine since that. Silvia was plugged into a surge protector along with a laserjet printer and a stereo, both of which are fine.

Any ideas? I'll be going into withdraw soon i'm afraid...

Which light is showing the dull orange glow: the small round indicator lamp on the main power switch? Or the larger light immediately to the right of the main switch? Does it glow whenever plugged in, or does the main switch need to be on?

Have you tried bypassing the surge protector, and plugging the Silvia directly into the wall socket?

Are you able to measure the AC voltage (using a multimeter) at the power supply terminals of the PID controller?

If everything except the PID-controlled heating system is working, then there is likely to be a problem with the PID controller. But a dull orange glow on the main switch indicator lamp would not be normal and could be a sign of low voltage reaching the unit.

Jim,

The small, round indicator light that is embedded in the power switch on the front of the unit is giving off a dull orange glow when the switch is flipped to the 'on' position. The rectangular 'boiler on' light remains off regardless of the position of the power switch.

I tried bypassing the surge protector-no change.

The terminals behind power switch reads 121 VAC, and the PID is drawing power directly from there. I'll investigate further tomorrow, but for now the hypothesis is a dead PID controller. I'll contact Auber Instruments and see what is to be done.

Thanks Jim!

Just a follow-up. I returned the controller to Auber and the owner replaced it at no charge with very good customer service. I'm back in business!
