Congratulations on your first year, and a big thank you to all contributors. This site and its members has made possible a full restoration of an old Olympia that I otherwise would not have attempted.

Cheers

If anyone wants one of Chris's two Cimbali Junor grinders you better jump because I just ordered one of the two :D (I hope they are both not gone already :x ).

I'll just tell the wife I went to order cups and must have clicked on the wrong product. It will be interesting to compare it to my Mini, and if anyone wants a good deal on a very gently used and almost new Gaggia MDF, I will have to market very soon (I hope).

I guess we all know how much Dan rocks by now and this shouldn't post diminish that by any means.

But...

Thanks everyone! Please enjoy the "gifts" this weekend from the HB sponsors. They've added a couple last minute offers to the birthday celebration list.

Congrats Dan! I've been fairly quiet on HB lately due to other obligations , but I salute you for the creation of the HB forums as well as the maintenance of the high standard thereof. Personally, I feel that Dan has been a mentor to me - partly due to these forums :D

OK,
Now it's officially one year, so Happy Birthday to HB.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone that makes this site what it is; the most useful coffee site on the WWW. There are thankfully very few flame wars and suprisingly almost no bickering on HB. For this alone I am eternally grateful to the community. I get tired of trying to follow threads on other sites that basically devolve into fighting. This can be VERY distracting when what we all really want is to learn more about coffee and espresso.

So, again, a huge thanks to Dan and all of the HB team, including moderators and members for making this site such a wonderful place. I have learned so much just hanging around here.

Now the bad part. Since I have learned what makes good espresso and how to make it, I can no longer buy coffee at shops in my home town (Grand Rapids, MI). They are all bad. There is only one shop I've found that has a clue as to technique, but sadly their beans are burnt a la *$s.
I am saving a lot of cash not buying shots, but sometimes I just want a cafe atmosphere. You have all ruined my social life. Now I sit at home pulling amazing shots for my wife and I, but I am socially isolated.

Thanks so much to everyone, and damn you for my coffee snobbery, :)

I can relate; Geoff runs Pheasant Creek and his shop is an oasis in the espresso desert of the Triangle. I also like the social aspect of cafes, but rather than face inevitable disappointment elsewhere, I order something I rarely make at home (e.g., chai latte, tea, iced coffee drink). While such preparations are not my personal preference, generally speaking most cafes have little trouble preparing an enjoyable "sugar bomb" drink.
