It's only "ultimate" if you like to drink pods. It does look tiny and cleverly designed, but I think most of us would prefer to drink fresh coffee, even if it means dragging along a comparatively bulky machine and grinder.

Lately I've been thinking a hand grinder and an Aeropress would be a great, light travel setup. Dragging around my Gaggia Coffee and Macap M4 grinder is getting a bit tiresome.

True, but if we're literally speaking of a "walk in the woods" that would require one very long extension cord. :D

Back in November I packed an Aeropress for a four day backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. I ground the coffee in advance (heresy!) but kept it in an airtight plastic bag. Each morning I made coffee for two, adding some reconstituted Milkman powdered milk (second heresy). The Aeropress worked great, but it was a bit bulky to pack. Also the Grand Canyon requires packing out all trash, so after four mornings I had a nice pile of coffee grounds to haul back up to the south rim. While starting each day with semi-fresh coffee was a treat, next time I might just go with tea (third heresy).

I haven't seen the Handpresso Wild in person, but the specs say it weighs 17 ounces and is 8.8 inches long. That's certainly doable for backpacking though I don't take an extra pound, um, lightly. And then there's that little voice in my head whispering, "What would Thoreau think?"
