from my GS3 on the bench thread...

Hairbender Temp Results

As you'll note from the linked page above, there are a number of very granular "sweet spot" brew temps (to my taste) within the gross top of the bell curve optimal range (197F-199F).

For some parameters... all shots were dosed at 20grams to 20.5grams, distributed with the Stockfleths move, tamped very hard and were a 1.75oz double in 28 seconds. Portafilter was naked, basket was a stock LM ridged double. Machine was a prototype LM GS3, grinder a partially blueprinted Cimbali Junior, Tamper was a Ergo Packer (58mm). Coffee was 3.5 days from roast to 4.5 days from roast. Tests were performed three times over two days - with each session consisting of 4 shots at each temp with out-of-range low scores thrown out and the remainder averaged.

Thanks for posting this!!!

I live in the PDX metro area, but it had been almost 3 years since trying to pull shots of HairBender at home. At the time I was using 'entry level' equipment and was unable to get any decent shots from the blend. Since then, I've upgraded to some decent equipment. But more importantly, I'm sure my technique has improved with the years of experience. Your post/data inspired me to pick up a pound of HairBender when I visited a Stumptown cafe last weekend. I knew I couldn't get .3 degree temperature accuracy on my machine. But, by using your notes I was able to quickly hit the sweet spot (for me) with this blend and I enjoyed many good shots.

I normally home roast, but it is good to know that I have a local source for great beans.

Thanks again.
