Nope, not my neighbor Barack, but Gimme! Coffee's standard espresso blend.

This blend is definitely old school hammer and sickle left, nothing touchie-feelie about it. A bass-intensive shot of dark chocolate, enough cocoa and distillate edges to take it out of the comfort food zone, but still sweet enough to be very pleasurable. I was at the NERBC (thanks Kevin et al. for the awesome show), and except for Grumpy's exceptional Heartbreaker blend, used by newcomer Jay Murdoch (don't think it's on web sale, store only, or order 12 oz each of the Worka, Gololcha and La Josefina from Novo), the shots from the Mistral set up in the theater foyer were my favorites.

Leftist is one of the standards for me (unsurprisingly, maybe, since Gimme could be called my local roaster); I often find some spice notes (pepper, cloves) in it. I also like Gimme's medium roast Mexico (Malinal Estate) as a single origin shot.

Not that it really matters, but wasn't it a Mirage?

I agree completely. Don't know if you read my "review."

I love this stuff. Whenever I'm in the vicinity of a Gimme! location I overdose on it. Haven't tried any at home yet because I don't have a good espresso grinder. A Zassenhaus is in the offing soon, to be followed shortly thereafter by my first Leftist online order. It's my favorite espresso blend so far, with Intelly's Black Cat running second.
All the coffee in Ethiopia won't make me a morning person.

I agree with Jim's opinions about the Leftist Blend. It is exceptional (no, I don't work for Gimme). There are no other local shops that produce a blend as tasty. For that matter, there is no other shop I've ever been to that has such well trained Baristi that produce such consistent results. Though I must admit I haven't been a lot of places. I have lived in both NYC and Southern California and Gimme! is my favorite thus far.

Wow, I didn't know they did mail order.

I just ordered two pounds.

Thanks!
