Hallo everybody!

I am experiencing a problem with my beloved Gaggia Carezza, and I was hoping someone here could help me.

When I turn on the pump the machine starts to make a comparatively loud noise, in other words, just as it usually does! But quickly hereafter, about two seconds, the level of noise drops dramatically and very little, maybe about a few drops, is coming out of the grouphead. Usually the machine would continue with more or less the same level of noise and the water would flow continuously from the grouphead.

The retailer tells me that my problem might be caused by scale, and I admit that this might be true even though I run a liter of Cleancaf through the machine after every three or four weeks. But what I do not understand is how this could develop within only a few hours. I had pulled at least two doubles during the day, and then suddenly after supper the machine reacted like I described.

I asked the retailer if I could remove the nut that is placed in the middle of the grouphead after taking off the dispersion screen and the brick that is hold in place by the two hexagon screws. But he told me that I would lose the guarantee if I did that. But then again, if the problem is caused by scale the guarantee will not cover the damage anyway.

What am I supposed to do then? Any suggestions are appreciated! I really like my Carezza (so much it makes my girl friend jealous) and I can not stand the thought of it being history! Please help me... :(

Best regards

It could be the vibe pump. Can you pump water out the steam wand?

Your CleanCaf usage should prevent scaling.

If you are concerned about warranty, I would say that you should work with the vendor.

Thank you for your comment Jeff, I appreciate it!

Yes, I can pump water out the steam wand, so I guess the vibe pump is not the problem?

When the level of noise performed by the pump drops dramatically it could be because something is preventing the water to flow, right? My experience is similar to the few times I have accidentally choked the machine because of too fine a grind. Now, with no coffee blocking the way and thereby causing the pump to build up pressure, something else must be an impediment for the water. That is why I mistake scale to be the problem, even though, as I have described above, I can not understand how this could happen in just a few hours.

As to working with the vendor, I have e-mail him asking what it would cost me to have an authorized technician to take the machine apart. I have not yet received an answer from him, which is understandable considering the fact that it is passed midnight here :)

I really like my Carezza and am very sad that this is happening. I guess there is no doubt a technician will be expensive - at least to the budget of a student - that is why I rely on you guys! Any suggestions are appreciated...
