I notice when using the automatic volume control method there is quite often a distinct variance in the amount poured. This is not too important when making milk drinks but has forced me to use the manual method for espresso. Has anyone else had this problem?

Do you think the volume variance is more than what varied amount of water is retained in the puck based on grind/dose variances?

Not likely there is a variance in dosage or grind. Grind is done in a Mazzer Mini where setting is never changed. Dosage is controlled by weighing on a O.1 Ohaus and is always constant.

Maybe the question should be how much variance are you experiencing?

While we're asking questions, does this same variance occur when there's no resistance?

Dan-

That's an excellent question... it could be volume is lost to the drip tray via the OPV. That occurred to me after my post.
