Hi,

I've been getting papery tastes through quite strongly in both the french press and espresso machine from a couple of recent coffees. What causes this taste? I managed to cover it by pulling tighter shots in espresso but I'd like to know how to eliminate it completely.

Cheers,
Dave

Could it be your water or a filter?

I was thinking the coffee or the roast. A "wood" flavor is a common taste defect in cupping with past-prime crops and poorly roasted coffees.

The first thing that comes to my mind is a bad roast like Dan said.

Is the coffee you're using have a Malabar in it by chance?
