I guess they thought $1800 was too much:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/hsh/579276631.html

Olympia Cremnia Espresso machine - $1700

And it's not a Cremina anymore. It's a CremNIA. Sounds Russian.

I am sure that he is just 'flipping' his investment just as many did during the real estate mania over the past couple of years. Perhaps the price that is being asked is causing others to do some flippin' of their own... :P

The original listed price for the CG sale was $1600, and the seller had some feedback about it which brought the price down quite a bit, and then the buyer turns around and tries to sell it for more than the original asking price. I guess there's nothing stopping someone from doing it, but that just seems overly greedy. Very surprising and a reminder that not everyone is in it just for the coffee.

An Ebay Cremina in very nice condition with a "buy it now" price of $699 listed today and sold today. Maybe the Craigslist seller should consider removing the 1 in front of the $1,700! Some people just dream bigger than others...

Ya Greg you are right but its kind of like giving up an old friend. :(

Not much doing here, snow is over our ears in the hills of Vermont and I have not had much time for the 'C' lever project. :?
But Spring will come someday (After 'Mud Season') and I have hopes of continuing the project then. Until later then...

Same winter song- different verse... waiting on another Livietta to rebuild - and getting way to engrossed in my steam engine hobby.. working on those old boats - I should have just enough time to get at least one done by late spring...

Look forward to seeing you pull your first shot from your Clever Lever

Ya, I know... and all he has is the manual and a story of how it is in Switzerland being customized and rebuilt... Is this a story time sell or what? Recently Ebay took a Cremina off the auction block because of what looks to be fraudulent listing (edit:4/12 High bidders identity was stolen...Ebay ended the auction for that reason)... Buyer beware...

Buyer beware indeed! A used machine that they are promoting as a 'new' machine - or at least 're-newed' - I wonder, if I go to Switzerland, will I be renewed too?

The Olympia sale cancelled, and on the same day a Sama Export that had sailed to amazing heights, also 'cancelled' - very strange happenings.

Personally, I really prefer it when the seller actually seems to HAVE the machine in hand.... rather than a lick & a promise!

Well, it worked for Keith Richards, didn't it?

And we thought he got his locally.....didn't realize they were Swiss! Doug wants to know - do you think he uses an Espresso machine, or does he just snort straight from the doser?

You gotta watch yourself on Ebay just as you do on Craig's list. I have bought 3 items that were advertised as one thing and it turned out that they were not. Usually used items that bolster what good shape they are in. One was the grouphead for the 'C Lever'... The guy advertised it as rebuilt in Switzerland... It turns out that it was probably a 70's era grouphead that had never been touched by anyone other than the abuser who owned it... I put in a complaint with Paypal and got 40% back. The latest just happened this week... I have some friends that wanted a super auto "Cheap" and I found a Solis on the 'Bay' as a rebuild (wouldn't power up) but otherwise in great shape... not! The front door was cracked and missing the hinge that holds it on... Currently under dispute with Paypal again. The point is protect yourself as best as possible and be aware that eventually you will get bitten when on the 'Bay'...
Edit 4/12... Received a 25% refund on the Solis...

What gets me are the comparisons to recent new cremina prices $2000. and now $3000. as if the machines are the same. The 2002s have the gauge, stainless boiler and some other build quality improvements and it sounds like the 2007s have many more build quality improvements. Then there's the recent exchange rate to consider. Just glad I got mine before the recent frenzy.

Olympia Cremina on ebay ...it's baaack...

We watch, you watch...everyone watches ebay! We saw the wondrous listing for the O.C., much traveled, but not yet arrived from Switzerland when listed, the first time. Only a $1600.00 price tag then. Now, it's BACK! Apparently arrived from Switzerland, 'good as new', completely confused listing that refers in the title to a 2002 O.C., but with pictures of the actual machine this time...kind of! Oh, and a picture of the repair bill! The bill is probably worth a bit - actual paperwork from Olympia Express! They claim 'over $450.00' in repairs. A boiler gasket, steam wand valve & safety valve gaskets, and a switch - indeed switches aren't easy to get...$65.00 in parts. $85.00 in Manodopera (I believe that is labor & probably is about 50 Euro an hour, or more!)

I think the illuminating thing is that Olympia Express does repairs! I admit I was a sceptic - since getting parts & machines isn't an easy proposition, I couldn't imagine sending a machine in for repairs!

Seems they've made a simple thing - selling a sought after, good machine, very complicated for themselves! (and I can't quite figure out what the coffee site in Greece has to do with a machine located in S.C.) It seems that it would have been easier to just list the machine on ebay, sans shipping/repairs - the Cremina has been holding quite steady, a good market, with lots of reasonable people seeking them out.
