Do you ever lick the bottom of the cup?

Want to talk espresso but not sure which forum? If so, this is the right one.

Just wondering....I was caught in mid-lick today, by the Home Barista. It was, fortunately, seen as the compliment it was meant to be!

Um, no? I often toss the remaining froth cap from my cappuccinos once the drink has been consumed. If I want more, I just make another drink. Peach cobbler, now that would be a different story, mom's homemade peach cobbler with peaches from our trees, yum.... definitely bowl scraping worthy.

Never thought 'bout it..
For a cappa - maybe not
For a 'spro - hmmm

brings up the term 'good to the last drop'

Absolutely - whenever I top off the froth with a bit of brown sugar there's always a final bit of extra rich, extra sweet stuff left at the bottom that's well-worth the tongue-stretching exercise...

I might lick out the inside of the cup. But never the bottom -- that just tastes like the saucer.

Well... I don't lick every cup, just occasionally, and it depends upon the shape of the cup, of course! One that we have is perfect for it - it's a 3 1/4" diameter ACF, base is 1 1/4" in diameter, nice tulip type shape - just right - if the contents were worthy! (but I've never licked the saucer, even it it has brown sugar bits, or chocolate drips)

Some people have all the fun!

I put them in the dishwasher, so would not need to do that, especially not the outside bottom.

I asked my wife, if there was ever an espresso I served her she thought was so delicious she licked the remains from the (inner) bottom of the cup.
Yes.

Literally, no, but I do run my index finger around the inside of the cup and lick the cappuccino froth off that.

Finger-lickin' better than KFC!

Depends on how deep the cup is.

Don't you often find that the last bit on the bottom has cooled too much and is sour? I might lick around the rim like a cat lapping at a saucer, but I have learned from experience that the final drop, which is stuck to the bottom, and does not run freely, almost always tastes bad.

This is true whether it's a home shot, or one from the best shops.
