Difficulty changing grinder burrs

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

just got my new burrs for my old Anfim. I have managed to remove the screws from the top burr plate...but now what? How do I get the top burr off of there? I thought it would come up fairly easily, but nope.

The difficulty with the bottom burr is even greater. I can't get the screws to even budge. Neither can my husband. Is there some trick I'm missing here?

The grinder is an Anfim Milano, equivalent to the Anfim Best. The burrs are pictured here.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier.

The burr is only held in place by screws, though it can stick pretty well to the carrier. A few gentle taps with a wooden mallet does wonders. As for the bottom burr screws, I apply my experience with stubborn screws on motorcycles... I use an impact screwdriver and have never failed to remove the most #*@!?! screw. You can get one at any car parts supply store; a quick tap on the end of the screwdriver with a hammer produces a quick 1/8th turn. To hold the bottom carrier steady, I gently press against the gap between the burr and the housing using a flat screwdriver blade.

NOTE: If you aren't comfortable doing this, I suggest you enlist a handyman or auto mechanic. They would have it out in two minutes without nicking the screw. There is the risk of stripping the screw's head, which would be a pain to drill out. So again, I advise this approach only if you (or your husband) are confident using tools.
