Did I damage my grinder (foam got stuck)?

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

I feel really stupid for doing this, but today I was trying to clean out some of the grounds in the doser (Macap M4) with a foam brush. After that, I stuck it lightly up the chute to try and remove some of the remains there. During this time, I also turned the grinder on in case there were any remains left, and I guess I stuck the brush up a little too far because a corner of the brush got sliced off. Running the grinder a couple of times removed the two pieces that got sliced off (pictured below), but do you think I did any damage to the grinder or burrs? I'm kind of scared since it is only a couple of days old. I ground some beans afterwards and they seemed to come out fine with no issues.

I can't imagine. That foam has so little structure I can't see it doing much.

Your portafilter basket should catch any remaining particles so maybe grind a sacrificial shot and forget about it.

I agree with Wes. The foam was caught by the sweeper vanes in the grind chamber, not the burrs themselves. It would take something a lot harder than a few bits of foam to damage them.

My Mazzer will chop wood (but I don't recommend it). Relax your grinder is fine.

I think the Kony's burrs are rated at two cords before needing changing...

There is no way that the foam could damage the burrs unless it is left in there and it melts from friction, and I also agree that the ejection fingers are what caught the foam.

In any case, if there is ever any suspicion that foreign matter got into the grinding chamber, the best course of action is to turn off the grinder, unplug it and remove the top burr carrier and examine the burrs and grinding chamber.

The Kony is only rated for twigs, you have to the 3 phase Robur to grind logs.

Coffee, for all intent purposes, is wood. You could probably feed the entire brush, handle and all, to the grinder and not make any dents in the burrs. Although I would not try it. Don't sweat it, your burrs are good for another hundred pounds of coffee.
