What to do, what to do?

I talked to Laura today at Versalab. My grinder, which was initially promised end of March, subsequently delayed until mid-April, is now more likely to arrive end of April. It will be part of the "next build" as they are finishing off the "current build" probably end of March. Each build consists of multiple but unquantified numbers of machines. The issue, last attributed to vendor problems, has now been blamed on the machine shop and is somehow related to Boeing (?).

Bad news for me as I ordered a GS/3 which should arrive in 1-3 weeks. I hate that I'll have to use my Rocky until the M3 arrives, and based on the experience of others detailed above, I have no reason to expect the M3 anytime other than a distant future. Maybe the LM distributor will rent a grinder? Does anyone think it's reasonable to buy a grinder like the Cimbali Max Jr and turn it over quickly? Anyone interested in a venture like that?

I'll take the Cimbali MJ off your hands for a very reasonable price when you're done with it...

Has anyone from the March "build" received or heard news about their M3?

I just spoke to Laura on the phone, and she said my grinder, also part of the March build, would ship late this week or early next. Better communication would indeed be nice, but since lots of people have made that observation without effect, just sit tight and you should be rewarded.

Best,
David

Same story here. My machine will ship late this week. They must be shipping machines to all the 'Dave's' this week or next!

The good news is that the machine shop that has been making their plastic parts now has equipment for working on aluminum, and the guy is coming over to Versalab to see what finished parts are supposed to look like. So maybe they will be able to get aluminum parts quicker in the future.

I am looking forward to doing some side by side taste tests between the M3 and my Le'Lit PL53. (Not that I would be able to accurately describe the differences, even if I could detect them...)

Still no word. Has anyone been notified of an actual shipment? I would be delighted with a simple "Your grinder is in the mail." But then, I never confirmed whether I was in the March build or not (ordered in December).

In my experience, Versalab does not make shipment notifications. Regarding my last shipment, 10 days ago, getting a tracking # was like having teeth pulled.

I spoke to Laura about the March build yesterday. She said the grinders are built, but they're running the motors in for a few days before boxing and shipping them. That would mean shipping in the next couple of days, so I think we're looking at early to mid next week to see them.

I actually got an email from Laura today, telling me that the grinder has shipped, and giving me a tracking number and delivery date! Since the latter is next Tuesday, there's going to be some anticipation this weekend!

First, congratulations! When did you order, if you don't mind my asking? I'm part of the next build which is scheduled for ... about a month from now (the ubiquitous time interval).

Why should I mind? 10 December of last year was when I sent the first half of the payment to get in the queue.

I placed a paid-in-full order for a M3 on November 26. My last e-mail inquiry to Laura has gone unanswered. Not looking good. Please post a note if anyone having an order this old actually receive a grinder.

Wow. If I were you, particularly noting that David's December order is shipping now, I'd be 1) excited, presuming that mine (yours) would be shipping now as well; and 2) on the horn with Versalab at 0800 Mountain time tomorrow morning.

Let us know how things go.

I'd call. My experience has been that Laura is a bit disorganized, and somewhat sloppy about emails, but not mendacious. I posted excitedly about getting email notification about the shipment of my grinder precisely because it was so unexpected, and I didn't post about the three prior phone calls in which I'd asked to be so notified.

Best,
David

I checked my charge card online; Versalab charged me for the 2nd half/balance on 4/2/08. My understanding from Laura was that they would put that charge through only when they actually started building my grinder. I certainly hope James gets his grinder this week! I am also hoping that the machine shop issues alluded to by Laura and, per David, resolved recently, will result in faster completion of the next build.

I have talked to Laura on numerous occasions and have always found her to be courteous, respectful, and as helpful as possible, given the news she had for me wasn't always what I wanted to hear.

The news was different when I talked to her last Thursday, when she informed me that my grinder had shipped the previous day. I can't wait to get home from work today to see what the UPS man has left on my doorstep. If feels a bit like Christmas.
