Daterra have bred, not genetically modified, a variety of coffee that is naturally low in caffeine. Be on the lookout.

I had some at SCAA, where it was difficult to judge the quality. I'm curious about what agricultural changes this will entail. I'm sure the plant evolved caffeine for something, and I would guess that to be insect resistance. So I wonder whether these coffees require more spraying.

Best,
David

I tried this when 49th released it last fall. Warning it is not anything like decaf. If you're a decaf person you will get wired from this stuff. Calling it naturally low in caffeine is a bit of mythology. According to 49th Parallel the beans contain roughly 1% caffeine, regular coffees contain 1.2%-1.5%- on average. Decaf such as swiss water removes 95+% of the 1.2%. This is a heck of a site different than 'naturally low in caffeine', 1% beans. My 2 pennies
